This brought tears to my eyes. Literally. Really beautiful.

One bit of constructive criticism, however...you might want to consider using a beta. Your verb tenses are all over the place, shifting within sentences, and I found it a bit distracting. Perhaps I'm just anal that way. :-) But much of the writing is so lovely, I hate to see anything detract from it.
