congratulations to our great nation on surviving 230 years now.
that war. great stuff. the one that most americans now feel should never have happened, and that an even greater majority of americans feel is not currently being handled the way it should be by our administration. and the representatives we've elected have shot down hope of withdrawal any time soon. 86-13? the senate votes NOT to withdrawal troops by the end of the year. 60-39? the senate votes NOT to ask the administration to establish a plan/timetable for our actions in iraq. troops who've had to purchase their own armor. which the government has yet to "figure out" how to reimburse them for. yet the war in iraq is quite a slice of the pie that is draining our national budget (and by "draining our national budget," i mean dramatically increasing our insane national debt - though our president does not calculate the expenses of this war in his plans to miraculously balance the budget...thus the plausibility that he will fail to do so). the budget that just might be better allocated in at least some way that would benefit the citizens here that actually WANT the U.S. government's help. but i digress. because i was getting to the point that the silly little war in which the U.S. has no plans for how to proceed nor when it may end seems even more silly when we consider the fact that it all started with a bunch of falsified documents that made bush bullshit the entire nation that there were WMDs...and in all likelihood most americans probably thought/still think this was all somehow linked to the attacks on the twin towers. osama bin ladin doesn't even like saddam hussein. he thinks he's an idiot. and well, i don't like either of them, but the former is right.
about that upcoming election. also great stuff. a dozen possible candidates for both major parties. two parties that fail to realize the one simple key to winning: elect someone that the other party will vote for. duh. so you know, a racist for the republicans (you know how the liberals love them) and a woman for democrats (the conservatives will fall all over themselves to vote). actually, i can't think of a much more even match...maybe the voting rate can actually get lower. although i will continue to vote for nader until a) the dems (there's a chance) or the repubs (highly unlikely) elect someone that i actually believe in or b) he doesn't run, i hope that 'a' happens this time around. but it is to be determined at this point...and awhile to wait...unless, you know...bush gets impeached. for lying and basing his lies on falsified documents. or maybe for boning condi rice. whichever. because, you know, we're all fairly convinced, as citizens of a country that grants us the power to put our leaders in place, that scandal and the personal lives of our representatives are a clear indicator of how they will benefit our country once in office. i'm a firm believer that if there's no visible/obvious/somewhat appalling scandal, they're hiding it too well to be trusted. but that's just me. i'd take dead hookers over fundamentalist christianity anyday. but that's just me again.
the fourth of july has long been my favorite holiday. and i do love this country, and i love the ideals of our constitution, even if they've yet to be realized, and maybe wont ever be. and sure, i do have a simplified and limited understanding of what's going on. but i still get to bitch and moan and be patriotic in doing so. and i can still hate goddamn americans and their fucking SUVs. and i can still love mcdonald's. and i can still spend the nation's birthday watching a world cup football/calcio/soccer game between italy and germany, drinking foreign beer and eating sushi, feeling no less patriotic than the assholes who'd rather celebrate by lighting the trees outside my house on fire. and that's also why i love america. and hate it. and that's always how the best relationships are.
hm...i hope prezzie b 2 doesn't puke on the Japanese PM like his father did. that'd be embarrassing.
