last night i could barely focus, but i suddenly realized that all my life i've had this habit. when i really dislike the flavor of something, i'll just let it sit in my mouth. my throat has been forewarned by my tongue not to take it, and my stomach quivers in fear. the food or drink remains immobile, my protesting mouth abruptly halting the eating process at the shock of such an assault on its usually-appreciative turf. if it's the texture i don't like, i'll chew it slowly until it is nearly dissolved. if it's liquid, i might slosh it around a bit, but mostly it will just marinate, saturating my revolted and protesting taste-buds. my eyes water. my nostrils might flare a bit. although this habit is a fairly unconscious reaction, my face only twists into a complete picture of disgust if no one is watching. my face remains blank in company. especially if my company provided the dish. when i finally swallow, i can feel every square millimeter of my throat literally choking it down and the echoed swallow-sounds inside my head are loud enough to deafen me...not even my ears escape unscathed in this process. when all of this occurred to me last night, a flood of past gag-inducing meals and poorly mixed drinks came screaming to the forefront of my mind. it hurt. and i don't remember anything after that.
but i'd puck faul.
