So Sam liked Paige.
Sam liked Paige a lot.
Sam liked Paige to the point where Dean was teasing him about it-or, he would be, if he were actually here. It had been almost a year since Sam had seen his brother, and the last time he had hadn’t been pretty. Dean said yes to Michael. Michael promised that Sam’s life would be spared and he was left in the hands of a meek looking Whitelighter named Leo. Dean went off to save the world, Sam went to San Francisco.
Leo was a nice guy. Piper was also nice if not a little scary and having a tendency to freeze him when he didn’t really do anything wrong. Being frozen was … disturbing to say the least, but Piper was nice. She set him up with a place to stay and a job, which was more than he probably deserved for putting the world in the situation it was in. Phoebe was also nice, albeit a little whacky, and she tried to get into his head too much with her empath ability, which made him a little uncomfortable. But Paige-Paige he really liked. She was smart, funny, and he didn’t have to hide anything from her. It was probably the most open relationship he had ever been in, and it was … refreshing.
It was almost as though Dean had done him a favor-if he didn’t think that the way he’d done it had completely sucked. He missed his brother every day and kept waiting for the day when Michael was going to let him go, but that day didn’t seem to be coming anytime soon.
“Hey. Pretty boy.” He turned towards her at the sound of her voice. “Where’s your head at tonight?” He could have responded easily with “nothing” but he knew she knew him well enough to know that there was never nothing going on in his head. He decided to just shrug it off instead and she apparently knew him well enough to know what that meant as well. “Thinking about your brother?”
Sam sighed, reaching for one of the lemons for the drinks and starting to cut them open. “Wouldn’t you if one of your sisters was being worn be a higher being trying to stop the end of the world?”
Paige tipped her head to the side before nodding. “Fair. But I’m sure he’s fine. At least he’s being worn by a good higher being instead of a bad one.”
“The jury’s still out on whether angels are good or bad,” Sam stated evenly. “At least as far as me and my brother are concerned.”
“Maybe,” Paige said slowly. “But Michael’s saving us, isn’t he? That should count for something.”
Sam would have pointed out that it was only because Dean was making him, but he decided to just drop the conversation for now. Instead, he finished fixing the drinks she requested, and placed them on the bar. “Your sisters are probably waiting for you.”
She eyed him for a moment. “Uh-huh. We aren’t done yet, mister. I’ll be back.”
Sam smirked at her as they went, before nodding. “Whatever you say.”
When Paige did, indeed, return, it was when Sam was locking up P3 for the night. She stopped in the doorway as he was locking up the front door, and gave him a smirk. “Told you I’d be back.”
“You did,” he nodded, stepping aside to let her in before closing the door behind her. After he locked it, he turned around to face her, sliding his hands in his pockets. “Why are you back?”
“You are a hard guy to peg, Sam Winchester,” she sighed, turning around at the bar to face him again. “I keep thinking that maybe I know what’s going on in that head of yours, and then something happens and I realize that I don’t have a clue.”
Sam paused as he thought that over, before tipping his head to the side, continuing to move closer. “Is that a good or bad thing?”
“I dunno yet,” she said. “I’m still trying to figure that out.”
He nodded. That was a fair enough assessment. “So what does that mean for us?”
“Well, it means I clearly need to get you know you better.” She smirked. “In a variety of different ways.”
“A variety,” he grinned a bit at that, letting one hand rest on the bar behind her. “I like varieties.”
“Good,” Paige grinned, her fingers reaching up to curl in his t-shirt and pull him closer. “I think I know the perfect way to start it off.” She gave a gentle tug on his shirt and he leaned in closer, letting his lips brush hers softly. He stayed there for a moment, before leaning in to kiss her again. He deepened the kiss as one arm slipped around her, pulling her up against him. He just leaned in, trying to get her closer and feeling her melting against him, when there was a sudden blinding flash of light from the middle of the club. Paige pulled back, frowning to look at him. “What was that?”
They both turned to face the direction of the light, and Sam looked almost stunned at what he saw. “Dean?”
“Sammy?” Dean replied quickly, before his eyes closed and he started to pitch forward. Sam let go of Paige, and rushed over to catch his brother against him, before glancing back over his shoulder at the woman behind him.
“I think we should take him to the manor.”
“I think that’d be a good idea.”
