You are supposed to be there

This week has been NUTS...Wed. I helped with ACTs as a proctor...yeah we were in lockdown....standardized tests=lockdown. This is my second, the first was great...sitting in the lunchroom and a cop runs in with his semi-auto screaming at us, then they announce lockdown. this time we were in the halls getting kids to go to the  rooms they needed to be, lockdown yep those rooms shut fast and 5 of us were locked out trying to find a place to take cover.

yesterday i was waiting for my student in 2nd hour and he hadnt shown. i went to look for him in the halls (i so spaced in forgetting it was friday so he would be upstairs rocking at that moment), went looking for him. I was standing in the main hall chatting it up with other paras, they walk down the hall a bit and this girl walks past me and starts to go down this one hall, she grabs her tummy, drops to her knees then falls face forward and hit the floor. i rush to her and she starts shaking and spitting up blood

(The most common and dramatic, and therefore the most well known, is the generalized convulsion, also called the grand-mal seizure. In this type of seizure, the patient loses consciousness and usually collapses. The loss of consciousness is followed by generalized body stiffening (called the "tonic" phase of the seizure) for 30 to 60 seconds, then by violent jerking (the "clonic" phase) for 30 to 60 seconds, after which the patient goes into a deep sleep (the "postictal" or after-seizure phase). During grand-mal seizures, injuries and accidents may occur, such as tongue biting and urinary incontinence.)

I call over to the paras  walking down the hall to get the nurse and help me. EMT's came and I find out later she had another one. I wanted to cry so badly but I couldnt because everyone needed me to keep repeating what had happened. It was after everyone left and I was walking with a security gaurd and he asked me why I was in the hall I cried.

If I hadnt been standing there looking for my student no one would have noticed. When she fell the other paras didnt turn around, the way she fell she was out of sight from camras, and the main hall. Classes had just started and wouldnt be over for a hour. How crazy right? I cried for most the morning I was so shaken by the thought that wow I shouldnt have been in that hall, it was only because i forgot it was friday.
