ANDREW ROTTEN'S BEST OF 2005
TOP 10 ALBUMS
1. Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor. I knew since the start of last year that this would be my top album of the year, and I will even go on record by saying that I feel this is indeed Nevermore's finest work. Hopefully Steve Smyth stays for quite awhile.
2. Firewind - Forged By Fire. Somebody told me about this cd at the start of the year but I never bothered listening to it until the end of summer and man do I fucking regret waiting that long! Hopefully the new singer is good because he has some big shoes to fill.
3. Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine. This cd surpised me. I posted an mp3 of a a leaked song, and at the time, I was not too impressed, but I got the cd anyways. While not as goodd as Tempo of the Damned, this proves that it is in fact possible to follow-up a masterpiece with an album that is definetly not sub par, though I do wish Hunolt was able to stay with them. Plus it's always good to hear solid drumming from Bostaph.
4. Overkill - RELIXIV. Good solid thrash and easily one of my 5 favorite Overkill cd's. But you know what to expect with Overkill, which is definetly not a bad thing.
5. High On Fire - Blessed Black Wings. I've heard a bunch of random songs from these guys last year and this one was my first full length introduction to them. Definetly one of the more underated bands of today.
6. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy. First things first. I'm not a big Helloween fan, mainly just the first 2 Keeper cd's and Walls of Jericho. Got it? Good. Personally I thought this cd was going to suck without Kai, and while definetly not as great at the first 2, this one definetly gives them justice and is so far the first album with Kai that I really like.
7. Obituary - Frozen In Time. Alot of people didd not like this cd too much because of how much death metal has evolved since the last time Obituary has released Back From The Dead, but being the Obituary fan I am, I instantly devoured this.
8. Corrosion of Conformity - In the Arms of God. Awesome cdd, but please, don't take another 5 years to release the next one.
9. Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal. I've been getting into this band quite a bit lately, and yet another 'reunion' album that lives up to its hype.
10. Watch Them Die - Bastard Son. This cd was a major shock for me considering the fact that I thought their self titled cd wasn't too great. Talk about major improvement! I really hope to catch these guys live in the very near future. Plus the Bathory cover does not hurt ;-)
Biggest Disapointments
1. Deaths of Eddie Guerrero, David Wayne, and Piggy.
2. Fear Factory - Transgression. While I liked it, just listening to it really makes me miss Dino. Never thought I'd wind up saying that...
3. Al Atkins STILL milking the fact that he was Priest's original ssinger and not getting it through his head that we do not give 2 shits. (haha)
