Edit: There's a typo on #40, so here's the redo!

I don't want to rain on this (rather late) parade, but I'd like to address something important to me and that is HOTLINKING. It seems really obvious and repetitive to be like, "please don't hotlink, please don't hotlink, please don't hotlink," yet it needs to be said.

Hotlinking/direct linking is when you share an image on a website using the <*img src="URL"> HTML code and instead of saving the image onto your computer and uploading it to a site like http://www.photobucket.com, you use the link of an image that you copy right out of this post or whatever website you are on.

For a while now, Photobucket has been showing the websites where the images in your album have been hotlinked to and there are some websites and message boards (I won't say who because that's not really the point) that have been hotlinking tons of icons not just from myself, but from other LJ users as well, and I am begging you to stop.

I know that my icons get posted to feeds and things because I cross post them to public communities, and I can't do anything about that, but every little bit helps. So please, just ... don't. Please.

It's not a ~credit~ issue, but it it's a bandwidth issue. What I mean by that is every time an image that is linked directly (or hotlinked) from this page is looked at, it uses up a limit of data (I'll probably be corrected on this, but I'm not too sure of it myself, haha) that I have in my Photobucket album. Once my bandwidth limit is used up for the month, nobody will be able to see anything I post from my album until this limit gets renewed. I don't want to come here one day like I did a few months back and see everything gone. It's not fair to others who come here for icons and it isn't fair to me because I have to re-upload them all.

I don't want to be such a Debbie Downer, but it's been getting on my nerves. I don't ever want to have a reason to make this journal members only. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Thanks for putting up with this guys, I appreciate it. Enjoy the icons! Requests are always welcome.

Edit #2: janice_lester has given me a brilliant suggestion. After my final exams next week, I'm going to do a separate entry on this community about hotlinking, like an extended version of what I've written up there. I'll also talk about saving images to your PC/Mac and uploading them, etc. Then I'll just link it in the rules section where it says "Do not hotlink." Hopefully it will help a lot of people develop a better understanding of what hotlinking is and what it means.

General rules:
-Comment and credit if taking
-Credit either immobulus_icons or _pseudofriends
-Textless icons are not bases so do not alter them
-Do not hotlink
-Do not claim as your own
