Revised Opinions on the Roadhouse Crew
This entry contains SN Season 2 material - don't read if you don't want anything spoiled!
I know in my previous blog entries, I stated that I liked the Roadhouse Crew and while I can't say that time has made me dislike them in any way, after seeing TUS I actually have found myself becoming rather indifferent to them. I think it's mainly because seeing TUS reminded me of how much I love seeing the boys work together ON THEIR OWN, and after seeing, remembering, and throughly enjoying watching this I have actually begun to see the Roadhouse Crew (RC) as becoming a potential third wheel that would really only detract from the show, IMO. Now, this is not to say that I don't want to see the RC again, but I find myself not really caring if the next time I see them is the last - the only character that I really want to see as a re-occurring character is Ellen. I really like her character and her knowledge of other hunters as well as her past interactions with John, to me, means that she could bring a lot to the table both in helping the boys in the future and helping them come to terms with their past. I see her as the mother that they never had and I would love to see this relationship develop further. Also, if other hunters start hunting Sam (and Dean, since Dean would never leave Sam), I would love to see her protecting the boys and giving them a head's up on which hunters to watch out for. As for Jo, well I won't say that I would stop watching the show if I saw her every now and then, but I would not want her hunting with the boys!!! I'm not sure if I actually want to see her as a hunter, period. I actually think that it would be much better if her character chose another path; this way her character could develop in a different way than watching her go from trainee to expert hunter, which I think would be much more interesting. As for Ash, as much as I love his character, I really do think that the only purpose his character serves is to give the other members of the RC a reason to be active in the war - how? By killing his character off. Like I said in my first post, his character is really the only one that is completely unnecessary in practical terms; his only function right now is to assist the boys in finding the demon - Sam or even Bobby could do that! Even Jo's character has been given a chance to develop with the events of NE and her relationship with the boys also is more dynamic (by this I mean that there are a lot more places her relationship with either of the boys can go - e.g. she can hate them for their connection with John, she could become Dean's love interest (I really hope not!), etc.) than Ash's could ever really be, IMO. I know the next time the RC makes an appearance is in ep. 10 - but if that's the only appearance they make in the ep. I won't really consider that their next appearance in the series. So, if the next time the Roadhouse is featured in the series is the last, I can't say that I'll mind immensely, but that being said, I do want them to make at least one more appearance to close off their story. I do not want them to just drop-off the face of the SN world - but seeing as the show seems great with continuity I'm not too worried about this.
