I have never bothered to read the Harry Potter books and I probably never will simply because I just don't give enough of a crap (as entertaining as I do find some things in a "everything I know about this fandom I learned via osmosis" sort of way) but I want to point at this in amusement just so I can say that Bolger couldn't be more Slytherin if ( Read more... )

"H-hey, you always seem to have your potions better brewed than us, why is that?"

"It's not that hard. Especially when you don't have an overgrown bat sniping at you over your shoulder all the time."

That was his first exchange with the nervous one (Rick, as Pearson insisted he call him), and it led to more between them. Mostly just him pointing things out they were doing wrong out of some deeply buried perfectionist part of himself, and out of some vague, unrealistic hope that if he helped them, they'd stop talking to him once they were better. Or that's what he told himself.

He didn't like admitting to himself that he was actually somewhat enjoying the interaction, but it was...fun, on some level. Which was why when Snape finally noticed that the Hufflepuffs on either side of a Slytherin (somehow he had ended up shifting his seat into the middle of the group, he swore Pearson had arranged it somehow) were showing surprising improvement, he swooped down and pointed out the oddity.

"Do I, perhaps, have grounds to suspect cheating?" And Pearson (no, Robert) actually seemed speechless for once (Rick was a hopeless wreck, as per the usual whenever Snape spoke to them). It was that, perhaps, that led Bolger to speak up, instead of letting the Professor have his way and perhaps let him be rid of them for good.

"Not really, Professor."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, you see," And Bolger had no idea what he was going to say, until his devious little mind cooked up something on the spot. "I don't want these blokes embarrassing me, is all. It's distracting, really, having their screw-ups around-I don't want that rubbish near my cauldron at all."

Snape's lip curled, perhaps somewhat disappointed with the result, but not being able to contest it.

"Perhaps, instead, you would like to move, and let these two stew in their own failures rather than them profiting off your expertise?" And Bolger actually had to think for a moment on that.

"Not really," he eventually drawled. "If they suck at it, they won't get much farther anyways. Besides," and here, he sneered; that one sneer that all Slytherins got when talking about that one house, those idiotic Gryffindors. Bolger himself didn't really feel any worse towards them than any other person (nobody could really be trusted, really), but it was just easy to blend in and sneer like everyone else. Too easy. The rumors that Slytherins might be finding themselves in more double classes with the Gryffindors really only added a bonus to his next words.

"I could always be stuck with someone worse."

-----

Bolger immediately hustled his way out of the classroom as quick as he could, but inevitably, the other two caught up with him: Pearson all bright and grinning and Rick red in the face and panting trying to catch up.

"So what was that all about, huh? Not such a bad guy after all, eh, standing up for us like that in front of ol' Greasy Bat?"

Bolger immediately huffed and turned away, pointing his nose in the air and grateful for the green and silver scarf covering most of his face with his house colors.

"I didn't stand up for you, I did it for me. It's not like you're so much of a bother I'd go through the effort of getting rid of you. It's just like I said, there's always someone worse! Humph!"

And with that he turned away and stormed off in a huff.

He totally wasn't red in the face. It was just the coldness of the dungeons.

He especially wasn't red when Pearson elbowed Rick's arm, grinning and whispering to the other boy.

"Hah, he totally likes us."

Ahahahaha. Oh my god. Why are they all so cute? Seriously. Not My Fandom but ADORABLE FOREVER.

(I swear I have been trying to think up a last name for Rick for months now. I just cannot think of anything that sounds right to me. It's driving me mad, I swear. XD I mean, except for when I say that it's "Saiou" because Mizuchi is his mother and she had him when she was way too young and doesn't know who the father is and when I'm feeling particularly horrible I say it was DD but that's a highly ridiculous sort of headcanon that also involves his name actually being Riku.... Which, yes, would have the exact same phonetic spelling but would use a different character set so he sort of uses it as a cover and I have thought way too much about the whole psychic thing :X)
