This was for Monday's prompt on 31_days. I didn't get it done in time to post to the community, I might put it up there on amnesty day at the end of the month but I don't know. Mostly because it's just my ridiculous 5Ds/Danger Days crossover nonsense.
So, Killjoys-verse fic. Pearson and Bolger years before any of the other fics in the series, when they first leave Battery City. PG. Gen.
[neither verse is mine, but crossovers are great fun]
-------------------
They leave Battery City together. Pearson steals a bike and Bolger clings to him, arms wrapped tight around his middle and face pressed to the centre of his back. Both of them certain that they are going to die, that the dracs will hunt them down like dogs and that death is really the best they can hope for because capture would be far, far worse.
But if they're going to die then it won't be in Battery City. It won't be huddled in the alleyways and hiding in the shadows. They'll die fighting and kicking in the dust out in the Zones.
The first night finds them huddling in the questionable shelter of a cluster of rocks. With Pearson dismantling the bike with what few tools he brought with him, looking for anything that might be used to track them, And Bolger staring at him like he's lost his mind.
"We're doomed without wheels, you know that right? Might as well shoot ourselves in the fucking head and save the dracs the trouble."
"If you want you're welcome to," Pearson shoots back, not looking up from his work. "I'm more interested in keeping myself alive and that means disappearing for now."
"A little hard to disappear with the bike in pieces, isn't it?" Bolger sneers and Pearson finally pauses long enough to roll his eyes skyward, ultimately pinning Bolger under a steady gaze.
"Do you honestly think I'd take this apart if I didn't know how to put it back together?" With a sigh Pearson turns his attention back to his work. "Go off on your own if you want to. Try and find a place to hide. Kill yourself before the dracs find you, although I honestly think that last one is a terrible idea. Do whatever you want, but I think our best bet is sticking together. Safety in numbers."
"Yea, and then what? We keep running?"
"We fight however we can out here. That's what Zonerunners do, isn't it?"
