First year status: Complete

So Japan is now in between the rainy season and the typhoon season. It's muggy, and it's hot, and soon the cicadas will be loud enough to drown out an entire conversation, but you know what else? As of Tuesday, I have finished my first year of teaching with JET ( Read more... )

rl, japan, jet, vacation

おめでとう! :D first year complete~ Also, fun fact, you'll be leaving JET just as I'm trying to join it XD maybe I'll get your spot. Any idea what you'll try and do afterwards? I assume you're sticking around Japan?

Also DDDD: to the lack of baka pair cosplay at Heso Matsuri, though I suppose if they wont let you out w/o stockings at a cosplay event they won't let you show your bare stomach at a festival but still :l not cool.

Thank you! 8D
That kinda happened to me when I entered JET, actually! I coincidentally took the place of a girl who had been in my Japanese classes in America. It was pretty sweet. So yeah, if you request Gunma as where you want to be placed, then it could very well happen. XD

And yes, I plan to stay in Japan after JET, but to move to Tokyo. I want to try and get a job with some sort of costuming company for either theater or tv. If not that, then there's a chance that my degree could help me land a job in graphic design, and if all else fails, my fallback is to sell my soul to the comic industry and be an assistant to a manga-ka for at least a while. I want to get out of teaching if at all possible.

It's sad that we couldn't do Baka Pair this weekend, but at least we got to pimp some Kamen Rider W. I even wore my Windscale hat~.
Our plan is to do a lot of Dream Live Shitenhouji at Comiket in August and for me to flash my belly there instead.

XD awesome. Well at least I know where I'd be living. That'd be kinda fun.

:D yaaaaay~ Those all sound like good plans though I hope the costuming thing works out - if you can make Esmeralda's dress you can totally manage anything the Japanese costuming industry throws your way >>

Hat ♥~ I can't remember, did we get a picture of me in your hat when I did that Akiko cosplay? if not, we should've. XD And good :D those costumes should be made and worn somewhere, at least XD

I think it would be in the town's best interest for you to replace me, since you'd have an easy time adjusting to a place that you're already marginally familiar with, and me having a friend in Kanra would give me good reason to come by and visit with all my old peers. 8D It's a shame that the BoE can't request JETs by name. You'd be prefect! XD

I try to make costumes at a professional level already. I just hope that being self-taught doesn't somehow bite me in the ass and screw me over for doing the sort of job that I really want. :x

I don't remember any pictures of you in the hat...Guess that's a bit of unfinished business that we'll have to remedy once you get back here. 8D
I've actually finished my shirt already, except for putting on the buttons. I need the stuff for the headband, and Paula needs to make her shirt, but we're already well on our way to having the outfits finished. ^^b

:DD totally! It'd be fun. I am planning on requesting Gunma, cause I figure it's far enough out I'll probably get it but can still get into Tokyo once a month or so fairly easy~ also auugh I need to figure out who my second rec letter is going to be from >>;; I always feel like my teachers know me at equal distance and never know who to ask.

*waves pompoms* I have faith!

Indeed 8D because you know she's stolen his hat before. On multiple occasions. Probably as collateral to get him to do something XD and yay costumes! I can't wait for pictures~

Requesting Gunma worked for both Paula and me. I think you'd stand a pretty good chance of at least being placed here, where you can easily travel to Tokyo on the weekends. Maybe put down Saitama too, as an act of wishful thinking that's still more likely to happen than requesting Tokyo proper.
I asked one of my Japanese teachers and one of my art professors for my letters of reccommendation, though neither were who I most wanted, since the teachers that I was closest to were both on sabbatical for my senior year. xox

But you know that after the first time it happened, he hid one of his hats away in reserve, so he wouldn't be without the next time she decided to take his hats hostage. :B

Yeah, Saitama was going to be my second choice - slightly closer, but I wouldn't know anyone.

I have a letter from my biochem teacher, who I got on real well with and actually went to her office a few times, but I'm not sure who to ask for the other one :/ I might ask my thesis adviser, if there's time, or maybe my Japanese professor. I don't know yet. DDD: my sympathies, sabbaticals are always inconveniently timed. I swear it's a rule somewhere.

And then she'd find it and hide it somewhere else to watch him run around looking for it~ XD I'm sure she knows where everything in the office is. Or she wormed it out of Phillip by bribing him with mochi
