Kamen Rider OOOs W and Skull

Dec 19, 2010 08:42

In about 7 hours I'll be getting on a plane to America for the Christmas and New Years break. Obviously, I won't have internet during that time, so in order to keep you all occupied while I'm not around, have a detailed summary of the Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider OOO & W Featuring Skull: Movie War Core, which came out only yesterday~!

I know a lot of you people on here like and follow Kamen Rider, and the majority of you that do all live in America. If you want to know what goes on in the movie without having to wait a year for it to come to DVD, here's your chance! There are a few less important plot points that I know I left out and some inside jokes that you may not understand very well, because this summary was originally written for my friend, Paula, but I assure you it more than gets the point across.

The movie is broken up into three parts. First up, Kamen Rider Skull: Message for Double.

It starts with Philip and Shoutarou fighting some monster bird thing, and I think I squealed a little bit. XD Terui shows up, but he won't transform, he just starts punching the thing. We find out why when Akiko runs up in a wedding dress and starts yelling at them all. She's become "allergic" to Kamen Riders and told Terui that if he doesn't give it up, she won't marry him. She doesn't like that her dad and everyone else around her were/are Kamen Riders and put themselves in constant danger. Her dad broke a promise to see her again, because he died being a hero, and she doesn't want her new family to fall to a similar fate.

Well, monster bird thing starts leaking medals, and everyone gets very confused. Then it pulls out a gaia memory called memory and kidnaps Akiko at the same time. With the memory activated, Akiko falls into a flashback of her dad from 10 to 15 years ago. He has his own bookworm partner who helps him out and is working on a case, acting as a bodyguard for Melissa, a singer who happens to look and sound exactly like Akiko (played by the same actress). It's odd because she isn't actually Akiko's mother or anything, but they're exactly the same, and Soukichi is totally crushing on her.

She's being targeted by someone calling himself "Kumo Otoko." When he turns up at her concert, Soukichi starts kicking its ass and impresses the hell out of a young Shou-chan~. Turns out the crazy stalker is a spider dopant and is being helped by a bat dopant, the the girl who sold him the memory. Soukichi wants to defeat him with just his stag phone toy, but the beast gets away. When Shroud, who works in the bonus room of the agency and makes gadgets all day, offers him the skull memory, he refuses.

His refusal doesn't matter much in the end, because Shoud tosses the belt on him in their next battle, to keep the guy from dying. The mask isn't complete and his power isn't that great, but after getting a call from Akiko in the middle of fighting and promising her that he'd see her again, his power grows immensely and the bat and spider dopants are forced to escape.

Both times that the spider dude appeared he left messages. That distinct handwriting is a clue to the dopants identity, so Soukichi meets his partner in the library and punches him in the face. His partner was the dopant all along. His partner was jealous of Soukichi because he also loves Melissa. He even went so far as to mark her skin with a trap, so that if she ever touches Soukichi again, he'll explode. But the partner isn't satisfied because Melissa still doesn't love him back. He goes on a rampage and spreads the marks all over the town, so that when people touch their most beloveds, they spontaneously combust. Soukichi is hit with one too.

Feeling brand new conviction, Soukichi becomes the monsterous Kamen Rider Skull and kicks his friend's ass. (My timeline is a little weird here because he already accepted the Skull memory and reached his full potential as Skull to kill the bat dopant, and yes I'm pretty sure the girl is actually dead....but whatever, the storytelling of the summary sounded better this way XD) Melissa witnesses the whole fight and laments that Soukichi had to become a monster in order to defeat a monster. Soukichi apparently takes the hint and leaves her.

All of this story Akiko witnesses, and she takes from it vindication that it's not good to be a Kamen Rider--that being a Kamen Rider tears people apart. Her dad lost his partner, his love, and also his daughter, Akiko herself, in ways that were all somewhat related to him being a Kamen Rider. It's a classic example of "correlation does not equal causation," but that's an epiphany yet to come.

After revealing all of the important memories of the creation of KR Skull, the bird Yummy (as we know it to be) flies off to collect even more memories in his "memory" memory.

Part 2- Kamen Rider OOO: Nobunaga's Desire

It starts with the Kougami chairman deciding that it's a good idea to resurrect Oda Nobunaga, because he was the greediest man in Japanese history. So the collect a lot of medals and and add some Nobunaga essence from Nobunaga's bones, thus Ooguchi Kengo is born. He's crazy like a caveman and runs away naked when the leader offers him a cake and Gotou starts shooting at his feet.

Next thing we know, there's a samurai-like monster showing up in the streets and killing off people with a family heritage linked to one of the people who might have possibly killed Nobunaga. (I get the feeling that some of this stuff would be a lot more significant and a bit more clear if I actually knew the names and family crests of these historical figures, but alas. I obviously need to re-watch Reverse Historica before seeing the movie again. XD;;; <3). Eiji happens to witness one of these murders and transforms to fight the monster, who gets wounded but gets away. Instead of finding the monster again, he finds Nobu-kun stumbling through the streets.

Naturally, Eiji takes the poor stranger back home to the restaurant with him and teaches him how to wear underwear. It's a good half-naked bonding moment for them.

So Eiji starts taking Nobu-kun along to his various part-time jobs, and Nobu uses any spare time he has researching about the modern world and learning all the secrets to success at an alarming rate. It's not long before he's the head of his own company, has tens of millions of yen at his disposal, and is hungry for more power.

The Kougami Foundation finds him again and offers to make him a Kamen Rider, Born (I think. That's what it sounded like to me). The new Kamen Rider is basically gacha-pon. Insert a coin into the belt, turn the knob a couple times, and a super power pops out. And when it powers up, the capsule on the belt opens up. It's absolutely ridiculous, but I love it anyways~. Kinda like how I feel about all of OOOs~.

Unfortunately, there's still this problem when Nobu-kun occasionally goes crazy, turns into a monster, and starts killing people. But when he starts going after this particular ballerina dancer, he's hit with a memory from his past, of another beautiful dancer, and instead of wanting to kill her, he wants to make her his. When she refuses, he gets angry, becomes a monster again, and causes an accident which breaks her foot.

Eiji knows now that Nobu-kun is the monster from before, but still has faith in his ability to be good, because he's such a gullible sap like that (and we love him for it). Nobunaga is unstable in both body and mind, because his goals are becoming clouded. He doesn't just want to return to his former power and glory, he feels something for that dancer. After talking with Eiji, Nobu-kun selflessly goes to the hospital and uses his power to heal her foot.

The Kougami Foundation is not impressed by this development, but it's okay, because they've prepared some new core medals for him. And with that addition, Nobunaga's inner monster becomes more powerful and takes over him. Eiji doesn't want to fight to destroy his friend, but Ankh appears (for the second of only two times in full human form) and lets Eiji in on the knowledge that Nobunaga is already dead. Eiji resolves to fight his friend in order to save him.

Broken and defeated, Nobu-kun lays in Eiji's arms and tells him that the sky is blue, by which he means that he's not just concentrating on his goals, but he learned how to enjoy and appreciate the world that exists in the present. He sees a phantom of the ballerina dancer, and he loves her just for being beautiful, wanting to make her happy rather than make her his. Then his body dissolves into a mass of coins.

Eiji is incredibly sad that he lost a friend this way, but suddenly the core medals stir loose from the pile and fly into the distance. And Eiji knows that the fight isn't actually over.

Part 3- Movie War Core (both OOOs and W)

Unsurprisingly, the flying core medals from part 2 find the Yummy from part one, and they are absorbed into the gaia memory, which has been collecting a lot of past knowledge, particularly on Kamen Riders. Thus a giant, flaming (as in literally on fire), conglomeration of Kamen Rider limbs is born. Eiji follows soon after, having followed the cores to Fuuto. He, Philip, and Shoutarou share a quick moment to say "Yo. Long time no see."

Akiko is just exasperated by the fact that there's YET ANOTHER KAMEN RIDER here to save the day, but Eiji does his best to try and explain that being a Kamen Rider isn't a bad thing, but for people like him it's something that simply must be done.

OOOs and W both transform and don't even make a dent on the new monster. Then they go extreme and kitty combo, but STILL can't really do anything to hurt it. Then Philip recognizes that the power this monster is using is connected to the Earth's memory.

So W and OOOs fly deep underground to destroy the glowing green crystal that hangs out down there, but to no avail. The monster has already absorbed all the knowledge of Kamen Riders into itself, so it doesn't need the earth as a memory source. But while the monster certainly possesses the powers of the Kamen Riders, the purpose of a Kamen Rider is something he lacks, and that is his weakness or something.

Meanwhile on the surface, the bird Yummy is still around, and it starts going after Akiko and Ryuu. Ryuu does his best to fend the beast off bare handed, but he's at a huge disadvantage, so when Akiko accidently drops the driver and Accel memory that she'd been keeping hostage, he grabs it for himself. He tells her that he can't and won't give up being a Kamen Rider, because he needs the power in order to protect Akiko. She's obviously touched. As Accel, Ryuu can finally retaliate, and with the random addition of Kamen Rider Born (obviously worn by Gotou), they make quick work of the Yummy.

In the underground Ankh's hand shows up with a mysterious aid (but not before Shoutarou freaks the fuck out about there being a floating hand XD). He's got the other 2 bird cores and no clear explanation as to where they came from. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite hear/understand what they were called, but one of them is most definitely a peacock. XD Whatever their origin, OOOs takes them and creates the super bird combo. The radiating rainbow light from the combo sends W into gold extreme mode from the previous movie, and with a kick from each side, they defeat the core monster.

Happy with victory and a newfound appreciation for the power of being a Kamen Rider, the W crew is reunited, Gatou goes off to pout, and Eiji crawls out of a sewer in Brazil, where his boss from the restaurant happens to be dancing around taking part in a festival.

As the credits roll, we see Akiko and Ryuu tying the knot. Before walking down the aisle, Akiko is greeted by a woman who looks and sounds just like her. From Melissa herself, Akiko hears the last part of her father's story that she missed. He didn't leave Melissa or, more importantly, Akiko because he was a monster now; he left because he still had the spider's trap on him and didn't want to risk hurting his daughter, the person that he truly loved the most. Instead, he made a request to Melissa that she stay connected and sing at Akiko's wedding. As Akiko walks down the aisle, the ghost of her father escorts her.
And in the world of OOOs, Eiji and the boss return to Japan with Brazilian festival goods and a feathered headdress.

THE END!

Can't wait to see it again when Paula and I are both back in Japan come January~!!! :DDDD
