(Yes, I'm technically commenting off of another comment, but whatever) I pimp the hell out of Kansai. If I end up coming back here for any length of time (whether through JET or something else) I'd come back to Kyoto or Osaka in a heartbeat. The dialect isn't that hard to deal with and most people I've met are patient enough to explain what different words in the dialect mean when compared with standard Japanese.

Although, if you truly thrive in a large city setting, I might actually advise against staying in the Kansai region. Osaka, while quite large, feels a lot like a small town (it's kind of like Huntsville in that way, only much bigger). And I think that has a lot to do with the people, who are quite possibly some of the nicest I have ever met; although if that's just Japanese courtesy at work, than it sure as hell fooled me.

Sounds like you've got a pretty solid plan for Japan though if you can make it, and here's hoping you do make it.

Have to agree with number 3. I often tell people that Burimyu is the only really good part of Bleach because it does cut out a lot of the crap that the manga and anime throw at the audience. That and the music is some of the best for a musical I, personally, have ever heard. The fact people can actually sing is phenomenal.

And now, an interesting fun fact: 物の怪 and 妖怪 can be thought of as the natural progression of a Japanese spirit/monster. Mononoke are more amorphous in their presence and characters whereas Youkai have defined personalities. Most Japanese spirits and monsters start out as mononoke and then eventually morph their way into youkai after being around in the Japanese culture for a bit. The tengu 天狗 are a god example of this.

The public transportation in Kyoto annoyed me, so I'm a little biased against living there. Dx I know that when I really settle down, I need to be in a city and not in a smaller town or a place between cities, for the work I want to do and also for my new love of Japanese theater and for all the cosplay/anime events etc. Most of that stuff is centralized in Tokyo, though some of the big stuff moves through/is held in Osaka as well. I might like it there well enough. Tokyo people are kinda mean (or at least emotionally reserved), and those from Osaka are stereotypically more open and friendly, which could be nice. *shrugs* Like I said above, living in Tokyo is the ideal situation, but whatever happens happens.

I'm not actually worried about the dialect so much. I've picked up on a lot of it already. It just requires me to flip a sort of switch in my brain, so that I'm listening for the right sorts of words and speech patterns. Makes it hard when listening to a person from Kansai have a conversation with someone from Tokyo, though. xP Gotta wonder what effect actually living there would have on my own American Tokyo Japanese accent, though. XD;

I'm confident that I'll make it. By some sort of means, I will make it.

I'm excited that I got to live vicariously through you and encourage you to go to the Bankai 003. XD Glad that I was able to get you into it, 'cause I know you were incredibly skeptical at first. There are some other really good anime musicals out there, but they have yet to match quite that same level of serious storytelling and grandeur that Burimyu has achieved. Don't know whether or not I would recommend any of those others to you though, because their target audience is quite obviously female, whereas Burimyu (though still more popular with women) has a lot less pandering and can be better appreciated by all. ^^;
