Yes, I still have a lot of life and Japan and fandom stuff to post about, but first! I just finished watching the first episode of the new season of Fullmetal Alchemist!
First impressions? It is very very pretty. I'm liking the animation and coloring style. The opening song was especially wonderfully animated, and I think I need to download the song. The voices are the same as last time in a lot of cases, which is good. The only person that will really take some getting used to is Shinichiro Miki as Roy Mustang. I can see his voice working well, but first I'll have to get over thinking "Yohji?!" every time he speaks. XD;;;
anything whatsoever that happens. I promise I'm being very general.'>The first episode was a villain-of-the-day sort of thing but totally new material, no plot from either the comic or the first anime. It was actually pretty big and epic for being all about a random rogue alchemist who shouldn't be appearing in anything to come.
It served as a decent introduction to the characters, I think, though it seemed more about their quirks than their true positions and personalities. I'm surprised they didn't make any blatant playboy jokes about Roy, considering the other stuff they put in, like 'Ed is short' jokes, and Roy being useless when wet, and Armstrong stripping, and Hughes getting mushy over his wife and daughter. Yes, they actually introduced Hughes in the first episode! Twas a very pleasant surprise. They're making us love him from the very beginning. ♥ They also introduced Kimblee, which was a surprise to me. Hell, there were even a couple flashes of Father. I really wonder what that means for the plot, like why our focus is being placed on these certain figures this early on and whether or not they're really going to follow the manga this time. It could be that they're rushing the introduction and establishment of certain characters, so that they can move quickly to the point in the story where the show and the comic deviated from each other the first time around. Or it could be that they're creating a whole new storyline altogether (which I really hope is not the case, though I'm sure they could make it good. Maybe....oh Bones.) It's all speculation from me at this point.
Looking forward to next week when they flashback to the Elrics' childhood!
