feel good all over

this was a real cool ass trip...today was a cool day...

the pistons won!  against boston but...a win is a win, & i still love boston.   me & my mom had dinner w/my auntie gloria, miko, & shelley @ fishbones in southfield...soooo the prices have gone up & the quality has gone down.  fail.  the bathrooms are the nicest part of the whole restaurant.  fail x2.

dinner was good though (the company, not the food)!

before that, went to visit my aunt gaynell, then aunt shirley & uncle al...

i asked my unc how he dealt with adjusting to the cold when he came up here from the south...he started telling me about his crazy run-ins with white cops...1 of the stories involved being arrested with his friend...the cops asked his friend "what are you?"  the dude said a "negro (pronounced by my uncle as "niggaro")"...he got hit.  the cop asked him again.  he said "a negro" again...got beat...this went on until dude was bloody and tired and answered "a nigga".  then he was told to clean up his own blood.  so my uncle said he told them he was a nigga before they could even start asking him, b/c he wasn't in the mood to get his ass beat.  then they told him his friend's haircut reminded them of abraham lincoln so they told my unc to cut his hair...with a pocket knife...which he did...WTF racist white people????
then he told another story about getting into a fight with a white man who was talking shit to him, & some "cowboys" showed up looking for him... and his granddaddy told him "you betta gon 'fore you end up wit a rope round yo neck" which is how he would up in milwaukee @ age 17...he said all those things made adjusting to the  cold real easy.
i said "i guess so."

all that shit is wild as hell to me.  like i'm just listening like...foreal??? and my aunt & mom just give me tired looks they have for people my age who still find it hard to comprehend just how ridiculous shit was back in the day.

i feel like that should be a poem.  not because it's poetic, but b/c it seems to me that people lose sight of the pathology that is "racism". it's a whole lot more than having a room of white people go silent when your black ass walks in--although that does suck.

in other news, i could potentially see myself moving back to detroit one day...depends on how things go...right now there are enough detroiters in metro-atlanta to really dull most of my homesickness.
