Character

Name: Remington Smisse
Fandom: Wakfu
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown; but most likely in his twenties
Time Period: Post-Season 2, Episode 9; "Le monde de Rushu"
Wing Color: Black
History:
Remington is a Rouge (known as Roublard in French), and as such was born to a family of them. His father was Kouto -- the King of Rogues, and was acknowledged as the best Rogue at the time. Because of this, his father had high expectations for his two children. Remington's brother, Grany, was a good Rogue in his youth. He was fit, and brought money and such to the family. Remington, on the other hand, was small and fragile, and didn't bring anything to the family. At dinner, Grany and the rest of the family were allowed to eat the food that the money brought the family, while Remington was stuck with just a stale piece of bread as punishment, until he acted like a real Smisse. It was a horrible upbringing.

Until one night, where he was so fed up with eating nothing but stale bread until he "acted like a real Smisse". After his father said that he has no fire in his belly, Remington grabbed a knife and stood up, proclaiming, "Do you really want to see what I've got in my belly, Father?" Then he stabbed himself in the stomach and fell over, into a puddle of blood. While his parents jumped to his side at that moment, his father went over to him and found out that the knife was made of rubber, and his blood was actually ketchup. His father discovered that Remington had faked it.

And as Remington sat back up, he was holding his father's purse. He had become a real Smisse.

→REMINGTON comics
Eight years later, the Smisse Brothers (Remington and Grany) have made quite the name for themselves. They are accomplished Rogues and thieves, and are even called upon for great jobs like heists. This is one such occasion, as they have been summoned to the city of Bonta to be offered a job. After Grany shows up alone, the client is convinced that Remington was a no-show, when he had arrived twenty minutes earlier -- before the client. After putting a knife to her throat and then sitting down to discuss the job, he revealed that he spotted her speaking to a bag hidden under the table. That bag had many weapons inside, and these weapons were sentient beings trapped inside the form of weapons, and thus the weapons were incredibly powerful. They were Shushus.

They were necessary for the job, which meant that the job itself was very dangerous. Especially since it was unorthodox for the reward to be shown before the job. The job was to infiltrate the Bontarian Nobleman Ude Galesh's tower and recover a powerful artifact. A mask with incredible power as it is unique. Everyone knows that the Noblemen of Bonta have incredible towers that can withstand any attack. It was a job that was essentially a suicide mission. And Remington was drawn to the idea of it like a moth to a flame. Grany knew this, and tried to convince his brother otherwise. It didn't work.

After trying to up the initial price of 200,000 kamas and the Shushus to 400,000 kamas, the Shushus, and one night of passion for himself and Grany, the price was finally settled on 400,000 kamas and the Shushu weaponry. The deal was made.

Remington and Grany had time to discuss the plan in the Cania Plains, where Remington pointed out that accomplishing this would make them the wealthiest Rogues in the world. It started a bit of an argument, where Grany pointed out that Remington thought he was smarter than him -- to which Remington replied that he was, but that didn't stop Grany from having other qualities he did not. It was then that the brothers tested out their weapons, and accidentally summoned a group of Cracklers; who are very powerful monsters. They were easily defeated by the Shushu weapons, and the Smisse Brothers were rewarded with a Ruby Crystal, which wasn't worth much.

Then they decided to drink the Recall Potions that would bring them to their informant for the mission. However, the potions ended up making both of the brothers nauseous from the sudden travel, which disoriented them. And thanks to their luck, a group of ruffians (an Ecaflip named Gring, an Eniripsa named Opus, and a Sram named Nipul) where already roughing up the informant and didn't take kindly to the Rogues that suddenly appeared in their room. A fight broke out, and the Smisse Brothers were easily outclassed and defeated due to the sickness they were under. Remington ended up getting cut across the chest by Nipul and fell over to the ground, and Grany was knocked out by Gring.

As Remington was on the ground, bleeding slowly to his death, Grany was tied up to a chair behind the informant. The group announced that they had gotten wind of a big job that really paid off, and wanted to get in on it with the Smisse Brothers, and that's all they wanted. The deal was that they'd let them live in exchange for that. Grany wasn't too fond of the idea, and told Opus to shove her wand up her ass. Gring stepped up and started his "interrogation", which was just punching the living shit out of Grany's ribs. Grany, however, just kept laughing, so Opus moved over to start kicking Remington. Grany spoke up and told them the price, and then for them to stop from hurting Remington. Opus was more than pleased.

It was then that Remington jumped to his feet and grabbed Opus around the neck. Grany then knocked out Gring after getting free from his constraints. While holding Opus hostage, Remington demanded that Nipul hand him his weapons -- which he did when he grabbed the sack of Shushus, and handed Remingon a gun. Without hesitation, Remington pointed the gun at Nipul's head while he was in mid-sentence, and blew his brains out all over the floor.

That would show them that the Smisse Brothers meant business. However, soon afterward, Remington passed out from blood loss.

When he finally awoke, he was outside and near a body of water. Opus needed the water to heal him properly, and Remington examined the scars on his chest from Nipul's vicious attack. It was then that Remington decided to get information from their informant, while Grany decided to tie up Gring upside down from a tree, then take a piss on his face.

Remington's information gathering proved successful, as he realized that their old informant helped build the exact tower that they were set to infiltrate and steal from. After deciding that they needed Opus to continue healing Remington's wounds, and they needed Gring for Grany to piss on, they went forward as a group towards Bonta.

The next issue has not been translated as of yet, but at some point during their travels, Grany is cursed to become a Bowmeow (which is the World of Twelve's equivalent of a cat).

→WAKFU Season 2
Remington first appears in the show in Episode 2 of the second season. Grany finds Evangelyne alone in the forest, talking to a Shushu imprisoned in a map. He relays this information to Remington, and the two begin to trail Evangelyne in an attempt to try and take the map from her. While following her, they come across a town that was collapsing upon itself. Once Evangelyne is by herself in the town after saving a little girl from danger, Remington attacks her using his boomerang Shushu. He appears on-screen, sporting all of the Shushu that were supposed to be the reward for the nobleman job. Even the ones that Grany was better at using.

The Shushu show that they've grown an affection for Remington, due to his violent and brutal tendencies, and he is completely hellbent on getting the map Shushu from the girl. Suddenly, they are swallowed by a tidal wave of earth. A few moments later, the earth forms into a ball on the countryside, and the building reemerge from it -- including Evangelyne, Remington, and Grany. They were now in Rubilaxia.

After a few bouts of "Aha, I have the upper hand!", and a couple of tricks from the two at each out, a battle raged out and the two are put at a stalemate when Ghouls attack the both of them. They then team up to fight them, only to be overpowered in the end and taken to their leader. Their leader is actually the body of Sadlygrove (Tristepin in French), one of the main protagonists, except possessed by his Shushu weapon, Rubilax. The room was decorated in hundreds of Shushu weapons, and Remington saw this. His taste for collecting Shushus grew, and he decided to take a chance.

Grabbing a Shushu hammer, he hit Rubilax in the face with it then began collecting the weapons into a sack. Grany became possessed by a Shushu, and began wiping out the army of ghouls that threatened them, while Rubilax focused on fighting Evangelyne while she was armed with the sword he was formerly possessed in, but was instead inhabited by Sadlygrove.

Grany became wholly possessed, and Remington decided to shoot the Shushu on his chest with his gun. Grany, now free, joined Remington and he went to leave through a window. However, Sadlygrove in sword-form was flung across the room and pierced Remington's sack of goodies open. However, he saw that the sword was the one hanging over the throne, and mistook it for being the most powerful Shushu weapon in the room. Thus, he left carrying Sadlygrove the sword as his only loot.

Evangelyne left, grabbing Bourlof the Butcher -- who was a very powerful Shushu imprisoned in a flaming two-handed sword -- and followed him across the rooftops of Rubilaxia.

After a long chase, Remington tripped and was forced into a situation where Evangelyne was the only person who could stop him and Grany from falling to their deaths. Remington then tried to fight, using Sadlygrove against Eva's Bourlof, however it was then that he realized that his weapon was a fake and useless. The Shushus he carried with him giggled and said that they hadn't told him because they have to play tricks every once in awhile, even on people they actually like.

Eva then suggested a trade, Grovy for Bourlof. Remington agreed, and Grany acted as the middleman to count to four. Except on four, Grany attacked, and Remington got both Shushus. He then proceeded to throw Grovy off the roof, and Eva jumped after him. However, a rope got caught on Remington's foot, and he was pulled with her. It then turned out that he was too heavy, and was actually lifting Eva up to safety, as he was falling. Eva agreed to help if he would stop playing dirty tricks. However, once he was up, he swung Bourlof at her.

But missed. And the roof began to crack and crumble. Remington and Grany shared a moment of disbelief, before finally falling off the rooftop and to their apparent doom.

However, they survived.

Remington and Grany reappear in Episode 8, running from a mysterious light source in the forest. Remington throws Grany in an attempt to get him to safety, but it proves futile as they are both captured. Later on, they are shown in prison with the main protagonist party, as they were all in the Justice Knight's prison for being in possession of Shushus. It turns out that while Rubilax was free in Grovy's body, he had forced Justice Knight's father to release his own Shushu and was too weak to take his body back. For this reason, Justice Knight captured the main party for having Rubilax in their possession.

Remington, however, was probably captured for not only using many Shushus as weapons, but for being a total bastard of a thief.

After teaching the main party how to disable the magic inhibiting device, he was finally let free with the party. However, he double crossed them and threw Evangelyne off a ledge so that he would be able to leave in peace. But in a flash of total stupidity in what he mistook for pure genius, he allowed Anathar, the Shushu that possessed Justice Knight's father, out of its prison. It proved a bad idea, as Anathar was suddenly enabled with Yugo's Eliatrope powers to make portals from punching him, and then took Rubilax as a traitorous offering to Rushu, and Grany as a meal to leave with. Then Anathar escaped.

This put Remington into a position where he was forced to provide retribution for his criminal actions, and go to stop Anathar from causing widespread destruction. He just wanted his brother back, though.

They rode the Justice Train through Cania Plains, and found Anathar. The fight lasted for a few minutes, ending only when Anathar opened portals to another world in order to attack the ground with demonic tentacles. The group began to push Anathar back to the portals, and the tentacles grabbed him and started to drag him in. His stomach cavity opened, and Remington and Sadlygrove saw this as a good opportunity to grab Grany and Rubilax respectively, while Justice Knight and Yugo worked on pushing Anathar back to his world.

Suddenly, Justice Knight's Father flew out of the body, and Justice Knight dove back to catch him. And just when Remington and Grovy were about to grab what was most important to them, Anathar pulled the both of them and Yugo with him into the portal and disappeared. They were dragged into the world of Shushus, where they lived and thrived.

In that world, they were immediately surrounded by Shushus in every direction, as Rushu -- the King of Shushus -- approached and demanded that Rubilax leave his sword form and accept punishment as a traitor. It was then that he was Grany, who was a cute Bowmeow, and was terrified. Apparently, the King of Shushus hates cute things that much. Regardless, the situation was about to worsen as the group was about to be torn limb from limb, except for Yugo, whose portals were important to Rushu invading the World of Twelve. Right before Grovy was to be killed, Rubilax requested the Rush.

The Rush was a sport where the combatants had to survive 666 Shushu in a giant gladiatorial battle. It was requested by Rubilax so that they could die as warriors, and Remington was more than displeased, though he had gotten Grany back.

After a long battle, in which Remington spent most of the time avoiding actual combat, Yugo sensed that his brother had made a portal to escape back home with. He led the others out of the stadium just before being crushed, and they ran a long distance to escape. Just before they were able to leave, Rushu headed them off in front of the portal. Rubilax, knowing Rushu's weakness to cute things, threw Grany immediately as a diversion and ran into the portal. Yugo waited for Remington, but he told Yugo that he would never leave his brother behind and charged up towards Rushu. Yugo was then pulled through the portal, and it closed behind him.

Remington was left in the world of Shushus.

Personality:
Being a Rogue, Remington has many typical characteristics of a no good thief.

He's sneaky, and plays tricks on people in order to get what he desires. He isn't afraid of making threats against someone's life in order to further himself towards a goal. Remington also preys on the weak, as well as the honorable in order to manipulate to them into helping him, whether they know it or not. In Episode 3, Remington preyed on Evangelyne's desire to help him so long as he pulled no more dirty tricks, on three separate occasions. And each time, he lied through his teeth and ended up doing just what he said he wouldn't. He even did it another time in Episode 8, where after being set free from a prison cell, he ended up throwing her off a ledge to thank her for the help.

Remington generally shows absolutely no remorse for his actions, and is more liable to the violent method of solving issues rather than the peaceful method. That's primarily the reason that the Shushus he uses as weapons actually like him. That's a very rare occurrence. When his Shushus were discussing about killing Evangelyne, Remington tells them to shut up because he couldn't hear himself killing. It made the Shushus even happier, though they did quiet down.

His threats also aren't empty, unlike some other villains. He is very willing to blow apart someone's skull to prove a point or simply because he's in a bad mood, and is even more willing to slit someone's throat open if he doesn't get what he wants. If he's letting someone tag along with him and it's not Grany, you can bet that it's because he has a use for them and is more than willing to kill them or ditch them at the first possible point where their use is thrown out the window.

That said, Remington only holds one thing above his greed for money and Shushus, and that is family values. He loves his family, and all Rogues are raised this way. They will never abandon their family, no matter what the cost, and their family are their only true comrades in the World of Twelve. It's for this reason that Remington always had his and Grany's welfare in mind when making his decisions. Even when he asked for a reward to be for a night of pleasure, he included his brother in on it because of how much he cares for Grany. The amount of self-sacrifice he is capable of for his brother is endless. He was even willing to take on the King of all Shushus to save his brother's life.

In short, Remington cares for no one but himself and his brother.

Remington is also a smooth-talker, and is able to convince someone to raise the price of a mission from 200,000 kamas to 400,000 easily, knowing full-well that the job itself was dangerous and likely something akin to a suicide mission. He was able to convince Evangelyne on four occasions that he wouldn't betray his word to not do anything dirty, which saved his life and caused him to betray his word immediately afterward. Remington Smisse is no fool.

Though he does some stupid things. He doesn't always think his actions through -- which is one of the reasons he broke his only foothold on a rooftop, and nearly fell to his death. While he does take the future into hand, he usually acts in the moment and most of the time it causes his downfall. Not only that, but in action he is incredibly flashy, making unnecessary poses when running from rooftop to rooftop, and choosing violence over peace. He doesn't care about the consequences. It's one reason why he took the job in Bonta to invade a nearly impregnable tower.

As such, when a story smells like a rotting gobball and is completely crazy for a job, his brother remarks, "Oh yeah, I forgot you like that smell..."

Strengths:
Physical: While Remington is not physically strong, he is very fast and agile. He can run from rooftop to rooftop easily, while in pursuit of someone as agile as a Cra, or running from someone as agile as a Cra. He's also very good in using equipment that he carries on his person, though he's better with some than others. His aim with guns rival that of a Cra, who are archers for a living, and he is as equally as steady with aiming a Shushu boomerang. The sword is very powerful, though he doesn't use it, and his glove just makes his strength a little stronger. He used the glove to push over a crumbling building on one occasion, which took a lot of effort for him.

Basically, Remington can use any weapon when he needs to, but he's not good with them.

On the other hand, Remington is very perceptive and able to sneak into the shadows on a moment's whim and study someone for twenty whole minutes without being noticed, and then able to put a knife to their throat in a moment's notice. He hasn't been shown doing to this to escape circumstances, but he's done it to set himself up for the kill or grabbing a hostage. He's even capable of this when he's on the ground bleeding to death. Taking your eyes and attention off of Remington, so long as he's conscious, is a dangerous thing.

Mental: He is very perceptive when he wants to be, and is able to steer conversations the ways he wants them to go so he can delve into important information. Most of the time, this happens when the other person doesn't even realize it, or they do it against their own will because circumstances he has presented in advance are against them. Remington is able to lie through his teeth, and still manage to get people to trust his word even after they know he's a good for nothing liar.

And his ability to use circumstances to his advantage, especially when the attention is diverted from him, is amazing. Able to even turn the tides in a moment's notice when he's bleeding to death, he is very adaptive to the situation. He's even used Rubilax and Evangelyne's conversation as a chance to grab a large hammer in the middle of a large room, then run forward and dispatch Rubilax for a few minutes. In plain sight -- because he knew that it was his only chance.

Emotional: He has no emotional ties to anyone, and uses this to his advantage when making deals. He can use someone with no regrets, and then after he's done using them, kill them (just like he did to Nipul). The only person he needs to care about is his family -- Grany. Other than that, he's a cold-blooded killer who wants things, and gets what he wants when he can help it. Especially if it comes to ruining people's lives and using them to his advantage. He's not afraid of taking hostages or doing dirty things. Why would he be?

Weaknesses:
Physical: Even though he's agile, fast, and good with certain weapons, he has his downs. He isn't very strong in actual prolonged combat, and it is usually his downfall. He was overpowered by an army of Ghouls, and was easily dispatched by a single Sram in one attack. He is nowhere as physically fit as his brother Grany was when he was still human, and now that he is a Bowmeow, it puts him at a large disadvantage.

Not only that, but the sword he carries with him isn't something that he uses on a regular basis. The only time he's actually used it was to dispatch a falling building on him, because he's not as good with it as he is with his ranged weaponry. It fits right in with the fact that he's not physically strong, and that the sword was formerly Grany's choice of weapon, along with the glove that he wears.

Mental: He's greedy, and will go to great lengths to steal things. Whether it's to invade a tower that is said to be impossible to invade, or fighting against hundreds of buildings sprouting out of the ground just to steal a map, Remington will be sure to go all-out to just get those objects. He was even willing to ignore a major army of Ghouls and let his brother get possessed for a few minutes just to grab every Shushu weapon in a giant room, then only saved his brother because he was done.

He also cares for his brother, maybe too much. He was willing to take on the King of Shushus to save his brother, and avoided leaving that world to go home for the same fact. He would never leave his brother behind, and would never abandon him in any situation. Even if it meant his death or losing all of what he's gained in the process of the job/adventure. The whole reason he was in the world of Shushus was to save his brother, after all.

Let's not forget that he doesn't consider the consequences of his actions when he abides by them. He took on a major suicide mission (that his brother didn't want to do, mind you) because he liked the smell of how things might turn out, all by chance. He also didn't exactly think through trying to attack Evangelyne one final time using Bourlof the Butcher, and it nearly lead to his and his brother's death from falling from a high ledge. Not to mention when he released Anathar from his prison because "it seemed like a good idea at the time", which is precisely why he, Grovy, and Yugo ended up in the world of Shushus in the first place.

And he also wants to build a great reputation for himself and his brother. To the point that he takes on dangerous jobs just to be branded as the greatest Rogues that ever lived. It's to the point that he's even very sure of himself and his abilities, without questioning it.

Emotional: The whole deal with him caring for his brother too much can also apply here, since it rapidly affects his judgment and emotions as much as it is implanted mentally into his very being. It's the way of the Rogues.

Other than that, Remington simply hates accepting the help of others unless there's a good chance in which he can use them. Sometimes he hates accepting their help in the fact that he's holding a bit of a grudge, or because he was doing so good at escaping/whatever it was he was doing, just a moment ago. He didn't want to accept Evangelyne's help the first time, but once he figured that he would be able to trick her afterward, he was more than happy at accepting her help on future occasions. But he didn't want it at first, and only accepted it because he was about to fall to his death. That kind of grudge can be taken a little too far.

He did kind of attack her, miss, and nearly die from a fall thanks to that, after all.

First Person:

Q&A, please.

Third Person:
The smell of sulfur was gone, instead replaced by the smell of fresh air. He could feel the sweet breeze against his skin, instead of the scorching heat from Rushu's fire swelling up against him. Everything from just a few moments before was playing out like a vivid dream. The Eliatrope, the Iop, the Shushu, and his very own brother. All beside him as the most intimidating Shushu he had ever laid his eyes on appeared before him, blocking the exit to freedom. A moment passed, and suddenly his brother was clutching for dear life to the face of that Shushu. It was supposed to be a diversion, but it was the worst attempt of one that Remington could ever think of. Soon enough, he was alone with the Shushu. That Shushu turned to him, holding his brother by the scruff of his Bowmeow body's neck. A toothy grin appeared on his face as he did.

Just you and me, Rushu...

"Grany!" He exclaimed, shooting up into a sitting position. His breath was sharp, as he tried to take in his surroundings. This was no world of Shushus, but he couldn't have possibly made it back to the World of Twelve in just a moment's notice. Not only that, but Grany was nowhere to be found. Neither was Rushu.

Remington put his hand to his head, trying to rack his brain for answers. He wasn't sure what had occurred, given that the vivid dream he just had was the last thing he remembered before waking up in such a strange, and odd place. Well, it wasn't entirely odd. But it was odd that he wasn't fighting Rushu for his brother's life.

Unless... he had already lost? Could he have died in the mere moments it took for him to think to himself?

Rushu was supposed to be the most powerful Shushu, so it wasn't out of the question. Of course, this means that he had failed his brother. The feeling was dread was large, as Remington struggled to get to his feet. He noticed that his mask wasn't on his head, so he began to give the immediate area a quick scan. There was a journal on the ground, but Remington was more concerned with the fact that he was shirtless. His mask and belongings were nowhere to be found.

Not even the Shushu he had gathered.

After a moment of looking himself over, he noticed the wings. "By Sram, what are these?" They were black, but they were surely wings. He wasn't an Eniripsa, so it was odd to see wings on his back. Could he have really entered the legend so early in his life, before being able to achieve great things with his brother?

Before turning his brother back to normal?

There were questions that needed answers, but he didn't have those answers. So, trying to ask himself these questions was going to be a worthless endeavor. He bent down, reaching for his right pants leg, and began ripping it up. After a moment, he had assembled a makeshift mask. No good Rogue is seen without his mask, and even if this was the afterlife, he was not having that. With a determined expression, Remington started to walk forward, taking a moment to scoop up the journal on the ground before sinking into the darkness of the bushes.
