So, for like 2 weeks, I was glued to the television (actually, when am I not?) and my tv was permanently on NBC. Why? Because of the 2008 Summer Olympics! There were some highs, there were some lows. I grew to like so many athletes after watching them kick ass. So I made a list! Whee!
5. Dawn Harper - Track & Field Women's 100m Hurdles (gold)
OMG! Sorry, I just fell. Dawn's mean mug was so ferocious, other hurdlers around her uncharacteristically tripped over their hurdles allowing her to win the gold medal. Now that's what I call "taking out the competition" OMG! I just fell again!
4. Mariel Zagunis - Fencing Women's Individual Sabre (gold), Women's Team Sabre (bronze)
YEOW! CAN YOU FEEL THE INTENSITY?! IT WAS LIKE THIS THE WHOLE TIME ZAGUNIS WAS FENCING! HER SHOUTING AND GRUNTING KEPT MY EYES GLUED TO THE TV THE WHOLE 5 MINUTES SHE WAS ON BEFORE DEMOLISHING THE COMPETITION ALLOWING HER TO WIN AMERICA'S FIRST GOLD MEDAL OF THE 2008 OLYMPICS! YOWWWWW!
3. Alexander Artemev - Artistic Gymnastics Men's Team (bronze)
This picture does not do him justice. His flares are so hot. I wish his entire pommel horse routine consisted of just flares after flares after flares. I wish he could do flares in all his events. Writing this made me want to watch some of his videos. This was the first
video that popped up in my search.
2. Natalie Coughlin - Swimming Women's 100m Back (gold), Women's 4x100m Free (silver), Women's 4x100m Medley (silver), Women's 100m Free (bronze), Women's 200m Medley (bronze), Women's 4x200m Free (bronze)
This girl medaled every time she competed. And she competed in quite a few events. I got tired just typing them all out. Sure she tends to hug the lane line. And she still medals! Yeah, that's right.
2. Aaron Peirsol - Swimming Men's 100m Back (gold), Men's 4x100m Medley (gold), Men's 200m Back (silver)
I fell in love with Aaron the first time he shrugged and was like "whatever" He's just a cool laid back dude. That wins medals. Backstroke seems like the laziest stroke too. I love it. Whatever indeed.
1. Shawn Johnson - Artistic Gymnastics Women's Balance Beam (gold), Women's Individual All-Round (silver), Women's Floor Exercise (silver), Women's Team (silver)
Meet Shawn Johnson, real American hero. I think she first really caught my attention during the qualifying round when all the other girls in her team were messing up, one after the other. She was the only solid performer. I was especially impressed by her beam routine. I'll be damned if her feet did not cling to that piece of wood like it was negatively charged and her feet were positively charged. I say positively charged because she was smiling the entire time. I might even say, she was beaming. Haha. Get it? Anyways, yeah, so she and Nastia basically ruled women's gymnastics this Olympics.
Alright, aaaand I'm done. I hope to see most of these talented athletes in London 2012 Olympics.
Peace out.
