Saying I Love You
It was a cold evening when a certain brunette looked down from her office seeing people scurry around town for last minute Christmas shopping. Some were shopping with their lover, some were single. Jessica took a sip of her steaming coffee and sighed. It was going to be another lonely Christmas. It’s not that no one liked Jessica, because she had men and women falling heads over heel for her. But it just didn’t feel right.
Jessica Jung wanted someone cute, beautiful, funny, and smart with an amazing personality. Maybe she was asking for too much, because she knew no one would be that perfect. Except for that one person she’s been crushing on for way too long.
Kim Taeyeon…
She was heartbroken when Taeyeon had announced that she was moving during their university years. She was originally in Dongduk University with Jessica taking a medical course trying to become a great doctor in the future. Two years later, she was accepted into Seoul National University because of her outstanding grades. After they both graduated they slowly lost contact. It’s been three years without seeing or talking to Taeyeon, but Jessica’s memory of the girl was clear as water.
“Yah, Sica, let’s go play in the snow!” a dorky girl exclaimed and jumped into a pile of snow in front of their dorm building.
“Taengoo, it’s way too cold…” the younger girl shivered, she was wearing a jacket but her hands and neck were freezing.
Taeyeon laughed at the girl and walked up towards her. She took off her long warm scarf and wrapped it around Jessica’s neck. After she took off her mittens and placed them on Jessica’s small hands.
“B-but Taeyeon, you’re going to be cold.” Jessica looked at the mittens and looked back up at Taeyeon.
“It’s okay, I can take the cold, let’s have some fun!” Taeyeon exclaimed as she rolled up a snowball and threw it at Jessica.
Jessica laughed at the adorable memory, after their fun in the snow Taeyeon’s hands were all red and somewhat swollen. She remembered that she had called the girl a dork when they went back to their dorm.
“You dork! See what happens when you don’t wear gloves outside in the cold?” Jessica scolded as she brought Taeyeon to the washroom to dip her hands in semi-hot water.
“I’d rather it be me, than you.” Taeyeon smiled and placed her numb hands in the water.
“Aish…” she said and looked away hiding the blush on her face.
“Stay here, I’ll make us some hot chocolate.” Jessica ran out of the bathroom and into the kitchen.
“Wait? What? No! Sica, don’t go in the kitchen! You’re banned, remember?!” Taeyeon yelled.
“Don’t worry about it!”
“Oh God, please don’t let her burn down the dorm, please, please, please.” Taeyeon begged.
“Oh, gosh… I forgot about that…” Jessica frowned at the memory where she couldn’t boil water and almost burned down the dorm.
“It wasn’t my fault… The stove was weird.” Jessica nodded and sat down on her office chair.
Thinking about their past memories made Jessica realize how much she still misses the girl. If they couldn’t be lovers, they could at least be friends, Jessica would be happy with that. But they’ve never had any contact for the last few years. It’s not like she could just randomly look up Kim Taeyeon on the phone book and phone every one of them asking if they’re the Kim Taeyeon she was looking for.
Even if she did find Taeyeon, would the older girl still remember who she was? What if she forgot about Jessica? Thinking of Taeyeon forgetting her made her feel upset.
She wouldn’t… Would she?
Jessica let go of those thoughts and turned on her laptop. As she logged her background picture was a picture of her, when she was still a blonde, and Taeyeon sitting together eating noodles. The picture was taken by a photographer that was sitting on the next table.
“Nom nom nom,” Taeyeon said while eating her noodles.
“Yah, you’re gonna choke and burn your tongue.”
“Nuh uh.”
“Uh huh, here give me the chopsticks.” Jessica took the chopsticks from Taeyeon’s hand and picked up a few strands of noodles and fed the older girl.
“Tastes even better when you’re feeding me.” Taeyeon grinned.

Taeyeon and Jessica turned to look at the sound. An elderly man had taken a photo of them.
“Excuse me, young ladies. I just had to take a photo of that adorable moment. Here, you guys can keep it.” the man waited for the photo to print and gave it to Jessica.
“Um, thank you.” Jessica bowed.
“Haha, Sica, you look so cute!”
“You too, Taengoo.” Jessica smiled and placed the photo in her pocket
“Where did I even leave that photo…?” Jessica asked herself.
She opened her drawer and looked under the files and papers laying around, “where is it…?”
Jessica opened her other drawers and looked for it, finally at the last drawer of her desk, she found it under a stack of reports.
“Good, it’s not ripped.” she held the picture close and replaced the picture of her and Krystal and placed the new one in the frame.
“Taengoo… I really miss you. Do you miss me?”
“I do, a lot actually.” a familiar voice came from the door.
Jessica head perked up and looked at the door. Her eyes widened, it was a miracle. It was Taeyeon, standing at the door, grinning like the dork she is.
“T-Taeyeon…?”
“In the flesh.” she smiled.
Jessica abruptly stood up and ran to the shorter girl and hugged her, “Taeyeon, you’re back!”
“Yeah, I am.” Taeyeon embraced her old friend back.
“Am I dreaming…?” Jessica pinched her cheeks.
“Yah, you’re cheeks are red! Stop pinching them, it’s real, I’m here. I’m sorry I left for a few years… I had to reach my goal to become a doctor. And I left you for that.”
“No… It’s okay. I would’ve done the same. It’s just so random… I was thinking about you and here you are right now.” Jessica hugged Taeyeon tighter.
“I was in a different country helping children. But I’m back now. I came to find you, because I regretted leaving. I know it’s been a few years since we’ve talked or even saw each other. But…”
“But… what? Don’t tell me you’re leaving again!” Jessica eyes were tearing.
“No, it’s not that. It’s something I should’ve done a long time ago.”
“What is it?”
“Saying “I love you”.” Taeyeon smiled.
