So... Life is Good.
I just finished my second-to-last semester at Case, and my next semester will be filled with thrilling classes (Photography Lab? Palestine & Israel? Yoga!) and will be happily void of extracurricular activity.
This semester pushed me well beyond my limit, and I'm just waiting for the onslaught of emotional baggage I will experience in the next few weeks of recovery. I took 18 credits, including a graduate history course, read thousands of pages and something like 30 books, wrote 25 papers, took 7 tests, planned two campus outreach dinners, directed a short film, led a group study, spoke on a panel, attended dozens of meetings, and applied to law school. Speaking of which, I'm applying to almost all the schools in the DC area, so I might be coming "home" next year...
It's also been a wonderful semester personally. I grew a lot closer to the 3 girls I live with, as well as the guys that live nextdoor, and I'm really starting to feel myself around them. Unfortunately, one of them is leaving, but we'll be reunited soon enough!
Undoubtedly the best part of my semester has been my love life. ;-) I got engaged on October 14th, and Joe and I are planning a DC wedding for July 28th! I'm so excited, and I only grow more confident as time passes. If you don't know the story of the proposal and want to know, go to our 'preliminary'
wedding site. It was so romantic, and my ring is so beautiful. :-)
I feel silly because I know I've changed so much, and I'm not sure who reads this anymore. While I really enjoyed my time in Maryland growing up, I'm not ashamed of how I've changed. I just know I'm stronger, more directed, and more balanced. I'm still an East Coast kind of girl, but sometimes I really appreciate the carefree attitude of the Midwest. I like waking up, and NOT having to think, "Will I be treated poorly if I wear this?" or "Can money really buy me happiness?" I don't know if it's growing up or if it's living here, but I feel at peace here, and fully able to make a difference in the world. I've fallen in love with this city, amidst its charms and threats and filth and beauty, and I just might stay here for another 3 years. Joe just started a new job working in the tutoring programs department at Case, and we can get excellent tuition benefits if we go to Case for law school. Then again, I'll just go where I'm led.
So I guess that's about it for now. Once I come out of my imminent coma, I should be really excited for the year to come!! I hope that you all have had a lovely, blessed year ... I know for a fact that some of you didn't, but I hope next year will hold pleasant surprises and exciting experiences for everyone.
Godddd bless us, every one! ;-)
