technology and dismay
my boss decided to roll my machine back from xp to 2000. the machine came with xp, by the way. so, we wipe it. we install 2000. i'm told that i'm not allowed to listen to NPR streaming goodness and come to find out my cd drive completely doesn't work. not even a little bit. and you know what? when you've got a machine running a nearly unsupported and incompatible OS, you're sort of fucked for help on the internet. basically all i've found are suggestions which involve taking the case apart and doing and undoing such mysterious things that terrify my dainty and passive sensibilities.
so, i'm bitching about it. because aside from the occasional rustling of papers next door, it's totally quiet in here. and when i start to work and it will still be totally quiet and all i have are the repetitive ticks in my head, i may actually become irrational. i feel sort of scared of that right now. maybe i'm already being irrational. in any case, i almost can't stand to sit through one more day of near-silence and mind-numbing paper work.
i guess i could buy a CD PLAYER. like a cave man.
