It's so shameful that I took this sweet theme into comedy. But the other way is cheesy romance and angst (and I cannot grasp Kiehl's character yet, didn't want to make him more OOC than this), so Craaaaack ahead!
"But Fairy Tales are Supposed to Scare Children" Kir, Maple, Helen, Kiehl - Ragnarok Online
"Once Upon a Time, there's a......" he paused and shakes his head, "I can't do it....Assassins are not reading fairy tales"
Helen folded her hand demurely in her lap, smiling "Okay then. Maple?"
The merchant not even looks up from her red potion, mumbling in monotone, ".....poor lil' girl sellin' matches. Gain a dirt rat zennies fer several days, bought 'nother matches, travel to Lutie an' get rich. Heard buildin' a Matches factory there. Nice goin'"
"What an elaborate business plan, my dear...but I don't think it's a fairy tales. Well then, Kiehl? what fairy tales your daddy read for you?"
If Kiehl would ever rolled his eyes, he would - but raised as perfect gentleman (albeit the hypocrisy and backstabbing nature of his country) makes him answer politely "Unfortunately, I read books on my own"
"You read Fairy tales?" it's Kir who voiced the amazement, Helen just smiling eerily - mostly, she's storing the information on her blackmail material collection.
"Various dissertation on Robotics and Alchemy related, actually" he actually reads the history of Sage Varmundt, downfall of Juperos too....and, well, maybe a bit about Cúchulainn - but Helen wouldn't ever heard that.
The Witch Tsk'ed , "no wonder you're wearing glasses"
"Monocle. And thank you for the concern, but I enjoy reading"
She purred creepily "of course you are" - making Kir throw a look of distrust on both of them (well, wizards definitely reading scrolls. And their spells are the contrary effect with the acolytes)
An awkward of silence follows for several seconds before Helen sighing dramatically, "Oh my, I guess it's up to me then to favor the kids"
Everyone (saves Maple, who busy counting her stock) recalled the stories about zombies, prisoners, and dungeons in Glast Heim - and give each other a look. Kir couldn't look at spoon the same way again ever since (he even noticed the robot had suspiciously avoiding soup dishes for a week after that)
Kir clear his throat awkwardly and stand up "I guess I could read some....erm..heroic tales to them". He winced when see Helen raised an eyebrow and smiled predatorily "Oh, that's interesting" Kir-the-assassin had been reading fairy tales and recounted them to children "Go on dear, don't let us hold you back"
In the end, Maple get the 'Kind and pleasant travelers' discount, Kiehl spared from 'smart and suspicious foreigner' pursuit-may-have-to-come (shouldn't he granted political asylum from King Tristan already?), Helen gained another entry for her Kir's shameful secrets collection, and the inn owner's children could continue using a particular eating utensils.
And so it is a Happy End. Really.
