manga update: Arslan senki

Dec 10, 2013 18:07

I can't believe that 1 month has passed and I haven't made any commentary yet on my current favorite series, NUOOOOOOOOOOHH! yes I'm busy at work and everything, but since when that ever stop me from rambling for manga? Never! obviously, you just did this month. shut up!!

work: you had listened to us this 1 month, eh well, okay, I guess we can spare you this 5 minutes hasty typing inbetween your duties
dayum, I can't even pretend to have rebellious streak, aren't I?

Arslan Senki (chapter 5):
Narsus art!!!!! I guess this will treated as some kind of Brown Note......but seriously, Arslan, you had SEEN it and you consciously still appointed him as court painter?? yah, I guess reclaiming a country from invaders is a price to pay for having uh...um...Narsus's art....but uh, petty people like me probably doesn't have thinking that far to accomodate Narsus interest (especially after being shellshocked with his creation like that). I guess that's difference from princely qualities and a rabid fangirl (not that Narsus can't be anymore clearer with what he's interested with, with his grandiose gesturing and hammy proclaiming). yah yah, he's also pretty much sharp with the fog at Atropatene earlier, so just accept that Arslan is pretty much could read the situation

Other than my favorite Arslan's "I shall appointed you as court painter' scene (that as awesome as it was, also added hilarity bonus by Daryuun and Elam's reaction). I'm also starting to suspect that Daryuun must be a great daddy's material.

I don't know if it's common to pamper the prince's feelings or something but as Marzban (General?) I thought he would be.....yanno......all toughing up and everything, perhaps barking out orders like sergeant from hell to the soft-and-seemingly-confused-at-everything Prince (well, it's his first campaign. And despite all the victories he's been hearing while growing up, this one is a disaster, thank you, I would like to hear how someone sheltered noble child would fare better and no, your Helene is not included on that. In fact your Helene pampered Her Prince the same way Daryuun does, okay this is getting unintelligible). Where was I? okay, Daryuun acts very motherly towards this Prince. With strong feudalism and Arslan is currently 14 years old, it might be still making sense. Probably. I kinda like Daryuun and he could slash any enemies forthcoming so let's just let him does whatever he wants.

I love how Arakawa-sensei also included Narsus's rejection for Kharlan's offers (Oh Narsus, you can't be even more FABULOUS when sounding that rejection *loves you*), and with all his antiques and offhand comment to Daryuun 'did you find a good woman in Selica?' makes me want to fast-forward to him meeting Alfreed already (WAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!) since that it's like still so many chapters awaaaaayyyy (we're currently in what? 15-20 minutes in ep 1 and Alfreed is in ep 2), I'll be patient with rewatching that particular episode instead XD DDD

On another serious note: anime!Arslan have this some kind of a bit difficult-to-approach regality sense portrayed. Then again, anime skims out many things. In manga, Arslan almost able to pass your average teenager with timidness, uncertain-ness and all (though it's for more bigger things like strategy meetings and whether the slaves should be freed rather than gossips or skin problems).

I honestly doesn't know if the, well, can we say, more down-to-earth portrayal in manga doing better? I meant, after we're established one character as humble and your everyday down-to-earth person with worries and all, to see him suddenly proclaimed such awesomeness makes you wonder where does that comes from.
*same thing also could be say the same to anime though. After seeing how regal Prince Arslan was, to see him personally deliver food to one unimportant prisoner is equally unbelievable. At least that what's I think.
We can attribute it as 'ah yes, he's kind' or 'ah yes, he's smart all along' but somehow I expected to have a more eh, progress to this character? well, maybe that's just me..I meant, as sociopath, perhaps I cannot comprehend that good is not dumb. I meant, theoritically, Yes I know, that being kind is a rare strength (that you can choose to be kind instead kicking other's ass that annoyed greatly is far superior strength on his own and things like that........but I think I cannot admit it easily (I'm a crazy rabid fangirl, remember?)

Elam = Elam strikes me rather weird with his aloofness. But if you think it again, his cold shoulder treatment is making a lot of sense, since Arslan is the Crown Prince from Kingdom that had policy to enslave people. And from prologue chapter, we know that he's educated to accept that as normal everyday things, so yeah, enmity probably to be expected here. Arslan seems eager to hear people out though (unlike his dad). I want to see the progress how Elam managed getting along with Arslan and exactly when and where he changed his minds about this slavery thing (or perhaps that's already happened and I'm just thick)

special commentary on last page on chapter 5: this chapter should be where Arslan's shines, but Narsus with his fabulousness (whether it's calling out Kharlan's treachery or submitting your service to Prince) running in second. I love you both!

Next: after Arslan and Narsus departs then, umm...uh, Ecbatana siege? Gieve! Gieve! (and ouch!Shapol, ouch, okay let's get this over with)

my 5 mins is already over, but want to record that I'm finished marathoning Kingdom (Shin! Shin!) and with all that Great Generals things going on, somehow I've had a feeling that Daryuun's roles (Marzban equals to this right?) has been much underestimated (from a great general that commands 10 thousand to merely a single bodyguard....well, yah, they're at war and all.....)

Also, emperor Qin Shi Huang seems not-so-good person, well, at wiki anyway (He buries scholar. Scholar, not soldier. Uh, I wonder how Shin will react to this. He seems disturbed by Choukei tragedy himself)

arslan senki, kingdom, manga
