Arachne honestly hadn't expected it to be so hard to get out of bed in the morning. As it were, she finally pulled herself out of bed ten minutes after class had started. Though she normally would've made herself later by putting on make-up and getting into a nice dress, he didn't today, instead just wearing a pair of loose fitting pants and a ( Read more... )

Raven didn't have time for this. If Arachne was going to sleep in class, Raven was going to make better use of her time. Without saying a word, she simply stood up and left the room, walking down the center of the aisle.

Arachne brought her head up swiftly when she heard someone walking. "Raven!" she snapped. "Get back to your seat. I'll..." She'll... "Let's play a game! A uh... word game!" Not that she actually knew any word cames, but it was worth a shot.

Raven paused and looked over her shoulder at the instructor. "I am not here to play games," she muttered. She then turned around but did not yet begin walking back to her seat, waiting to see just what Arachne's respone was going to be.

"Well too bad," Arachne growled. "Now go back to your seat before I make you go back to your seat."

She turned to the class. "Who knows some fun word games?"

Glancing at her seat, she saw a small item lying on the floor. It began glowing with a strange, dark energy as it levitated itself four or five feet into the air. It then launched itself across the room like an arrow, missing several student's heads by inches as it streaked by.

Raven snatched it from midair with her hand. "Forgot my pencil," she casually said as she turned around, walking towards the door. Perhaps she should have been smart and just cut class altogether like River and that green-skinned girl.

Arachne glared. She wasn't in the mood to fool around. Of course, this was a spell that only her family was supposed to know, but these weren't students and wouldn't recognize it anyways. Her mind was focused, she made sure of that before muttering the incantation of the control spell. The spell was longer than most of the other spells she used, but she had grown used to casting it and had rambled it off within seconds.

Raven had not been paying attention enough to hear what had been said, and if she heard anything at all she knew it was probably Arachne just muttering something to herself. "Before I make you", huh?

It was then that she felt a magical energy wash over her body, making it difficult to move. What was this....some sort of control spell?

Raven was pissed. Just the idea that somebody would force her to do something against her will caused her fists to clench. The demon within her began to claw at her soul, but she did not care at the moment. She did not even think about the dangers of unleashing her emotion.

This was a spell that Raven had not encountered before. Otherwise, she would have just muttered the appropriate counterspell and continued walking without missing a step. No matter. As the spell forced her to turn around and take a step forward, Raven's entire body was surrounded by an impressive aura of pure darkness. She was not about to fight an instructor, but she was going to fight for control of her own body. If she returned ( ... )

Arachne looked at Raven. Though it wasn't the first time she had seen such a dark aura, it was the first time she had seen it on.... well, she supposed it was possible to be seen on one so young, but the fact that she was going to this school made Arachne wonder where she had acquired the knowledge. She cancelled the spell after only a few steps, then grinned cheerfully at Raven. "Will you be joining us now, or are you going to make a break for it? If it's the latter, I'm afraid I'm going to have to reduce your mark significantly."

It wasn't so much the fact that she didn't exactly want to face such a dark power once she let the spell go (which she would've needed to do sooner or later because she might get in trouble. And Raven seemed to be doing a rather good job resisting it, which meant that she may have broken it sooner or later), so much the fact that she a) didn't want to have to pay for any repairs the school would need after that and b) didn't exactly want to ruin her image of incompetence anymore than she just had.

Raven felt the spell let go of her body. She stood there for a second or two longer before she finally closed her eyes. The energy field drifted away, seemingly taking the form of a large bird as it dissapated. Taking a deep breath, she regained her composure. She regretted the fact that she almost lost control of herself. Seeing the frightened looks on the faces of several of her fellow students only reminded Raven of her mistake.

She glanced at Arachne as she made her way back down to her desk. It was not so much of an angry glare, but what she hoped was a mutual respect for their little stalemate.

Arachne smiled a little, and then let it grow into a big grin as she turned to her students and clapped. "Okay! Word games! Let's find one! Or make one up. Or something. Bonus marks for whoever can make this class not suck."
