FREEDOM!!
...as of 3 days ago. My biggest achievement has been not setting my alarm this morning, but that's damn near big enough ♥ Managed to work in an Akiba run with Amelia to obtain One Piece!Dragon Balls, and Indian last night with Rachel before she went off to Hokkaido today. For the record, the garlic naan last night was bigger than my head.
Akiba run was fraught with peril of the Good God Where Are The Damn Balls variety - we wandered all over went into so many stores with no luck, so frustrating, mostly because she couldn't remember where it was she had originally bought some. Finally we were actually on our way back to the station and because we had happened to walk a street further than normal, we passed the Kotobukiya store and decided to go in as sort of a last ditch effort... it was then established that yes, this was where she'd bought them before, so rushed all over the first floor looking for them and coming up empty. Finally we meandered around the ground floor kind of dejected, before randomly finding the damn balls had been moved down there XD; Even I managed to get something I've been after for a while - a squooshable Domo-kun plush that stands up :> And a couple of the Togainu no Chi one coin figures. Got the secret one, military Akira! I didn't even know he existed soo.. go me? ALSO, I was not aware that they made
INDIANA JONES One Coin figures! Dear god, the impulses. And the best part is, one of figures is HAN SOLO. I can't quite put into words the level of awesome this has reached.
Because everyone loves materialistic geek rundowns.
Exams sucked, they sucked hard. The moment I emerged from Japanese I figured I could kiss my borderline A goodbye. You ever have those language exams where you feel like they're ONLY including exceptions to the rule and insanely nitpicky details instead of testing you on the stuff that will actually be useful in life? Yeah. Art was also horrific, and my Lit papers... far from stellar. I'm not so much disappointed anymore as resigned to the fact that my grades will bomb as a result of finals, but it was pretty galling to think any work I'd put in over the entire semester was undone record-wise in the space of a week :/ Here's to hoping next semester is more inspiring and successful.
Oooh, so I only got to mention it last time, but last month I went to my first doujinshi convention ever!
Comic City Tokyo 121 was extremely good to Amelia and me X3 Even getting there was brilliant - we got to ride almost the entire length of the monorail to Tokyo Big Sight, which was such a great scenic ride, if meandering. We arrived at the venue about an hour before the con opened, and as expected there were already hundreds of people waiting. They sat us down along the concourse for the hour before opening, which wasn't so bad because we got to pore over the catalogue and plan out our stops :x When the doors opened, I was relieved not to be swept away by running masses of fangirls... and surprised to be let in immediately, with no wait! Once we got in to the halls, it was all over for us ;P We scurried around obtaining loot and meeting artists I'd been fangirling unknowingly for months or years. I felt bad that I couldn't talk to the Nurarihyon circles more, I was too nervous x.o Especially when they go to the trouble to try and engage you in conversation, when it's obviously you're a foreigner and not exactly skilled in the language. So yes... my main goals were to stop by
NineFourAir,
Hage, and any and all Nurarihyon circles. I came away with a delicious stack of Nurarihyon no Mago, Neuro, Mononoke, Reborn, and Natsume Yuujinchou doujinshi, and some goodies too. Hmm and I believe a solitary Kuroshitsuji, simply because it was gorgeous. Pictures another time?
I dunno, this is probably nothing new to some of you, but it was a strange and cool experience for me as my first time. I can't wait to go to another one! And next time I'll try not to be so ridiculously nervous that I can barely answer peoples' questions. It's such an amazing thing to be able to meet the actual artists! (even if I failed at conversation)
Unrelatedly, I'm never one to really care about fictional character birthdays, but find it quite fitting that someone should be kind enough to share the first part of Dino's Treasure Hunter novel chapter on his birthday. Now I shall be getting back to translating Tegami Bachi 26, in which Noir continues to break my heart...
