...I'm sorry, really I am.
Just had the requisite "It won't be Christmas in both of our timezones whenever we talk, so Happy Early Christmas and we'll talk again tomorrow to say Happy Late Christmas!" Skype video call with the parental units. I also tried my hand at convincing them that KFC is the epitome of Christmas food here, and that they have endless adverts on tv and such for the perfect "Kentucky Christmas", and that people preorder their KFC for Christmas to avoid lines / unavailability. It took this creepy video of
KFC sparkling with Christmas glitter in an advert for them to believe me.
This kind of thing really doesn't help me feel like it's Christmas. Let alone the fact that there's no snow, it has been in the 60's a few days recently, and it just... isn't a big deal. Also it'll be the first Christmas I'm away from my family (sob*whinge*tear). Amelia and I went to the cinema today in Kawaguchi, which is a huge shopping centre, and there definitely was a moment when we were like Oh wait, it's Christmas Eve! The only time it feels like Christmas - or rather, that I can believe it is - is when I go to shopping centres where they do actually go all out with the lights and the decorations. I mean fair enough, I'm not criticising; there really is no reason for places to make it "feel" like Christmas. Just saying. Doesn't feel like it for me, very strange feeling. I know I'm going to get back to America in August and feel like I lost a month of holidays somewhere. In any case it's all very strange. Slightly sad too. But the KFC thing? Just wrong, plain wrong. No one needs to see the Colonel in a fat Santa suit.
We went to the cinema to see the new Bleach movie (Fade to Black), which was exactly as expected, except for having a hell of a lot more Urahara KICKING ASS AND BEING DELICIOUS than I could ever imagine. Otherwise: slim on plot and character, packed full of awesome fights and goodly music and characters being ridiculously cool. I pretty much went to see the taichou doing their thing, and to see Kon because you can NEVER have enough Kon. The animation was a lot better than I expected too (is it bad when Quality Animation becomes the norm in your head? Yeah. I think it is)... with a few select moments. Also? Even if it's just Bleach and uses easy words... HELL YES for understanding 90% of the Japanese with no subs of any kind. That made me love life. And Amelia deserves a medal for going with me, since she stopped watching after the Soul Society arc.
For the record, the Kawaguchi Movix cinema is strangely amazing in a way only Japan seems able to manage. The bathroom main entries have automatic sliding doors and look like Ikea showrooms, the concessions stand stuff includes caramel popcorn (even a HALF AND HALF bucket with caramel on one side and butter on the other), ridiculously tasty panini (!) and a lot of good amazing food akin to a fancy diner, rainbow lights leading the way pretty much everywhere, adjustable seat padding and seat cushions, and cup holders that expand to fit your popcorn in them. And let us not forget the merchandise store! It's a magical land of joy and deliciousness.
I may or may not be extra happy right now because we went to the Animate Mini nearby, and the Mister Donut. Shhhhh.
Anyway, no matter what you're up to tomorrow, have a great day, o f-list of win ♥
