What a Hallo-weenie

We have to step it up a notch for Halloween next year... was just as much fun as last year, great outfits abound and not so great venues.  For the past two years Sean and I have tried to stay away from the nuttiness that is the west village Halloween parade.   Next year we need to plan ahead and figure out some sort of Halloween celebration.   I know you have all heard of the expression, "all dressed up and nowhere to go"...
That was us.

I went as Marie Antoinette and Sean went as Dapper Dan, complete with a top hat!  We joked that the only thing he needed was a monocle.
I figured that I should make the Antoinette dress because I had just finished a pair of stays a week earlier and I already had all of the fabrics and notions for the outfit.  I also shamelessly copied the blue and red dress from Coppola's Marie Antoinette.  The only thing I had to go out and purchase was the steel hoop boning and face powder.  I spent 5.99 on the powder and 17.80 on the boning, not a bad day if I say so.

I put about 12 hours into the garment and underpinnings (less the stays) and I started it the day before Halloween!   There is the dress, the belt and the panniers with attached bum pad.  My happiest part about the dress is the sleeves.  I was able to move around in them, they were form fitting and I winged it without any pattern.  My most frustrating thing about the dress is that the pinked edge I put on all the ruffles is fraying.  No a big deal, but who wants fraying?  I also am a little bummed that I look so short waisted in the photos and subsequently heavier than my real self
; (        boo.  But whoo-wee, let me tell you.  Drinking in corsets is different than drinking in street clothes.  I had a drink called "Speaking of peaches" and a half shot of whiskey the entire night which was 6+ hours and I think it affects you very differently.  Case in point, figures no.3 and No.4.  : )
