My sister, Melissa, goes to Macomb Community College on the East side of the state. Currently, it is the only community college over there that I know of to offer fairly extensive theatre, music and art programs. Being a music major, Melissa is member and president of an amazing group called The Macombers. They are an extremely successful show choir that perform all over the place. Macombers brings in a lot of money to the college as well as funding a substantial scholarship for every single Macomber member, without which, many of them would not be able to attend the college at all.

Starting next semester Macomb Community College will no longer offer theatre as one of their programs. Theatre students one semester away from graduating will be turned away without the slightest acknowledgement. What's worse is that this is just the beginning. Without warning and without consulting its students (whom the administration has suddenly been calling "customers") Macomb Community College is launching a 10 year plan to eliminate all arts programs and activities offered on campus. This will take my sister's beloved Macombers with them.

I can't imagine that MCC would completely illiminate all of these precious programs without trying at all to save them. They have an amazing Performing Arts Center and it honestly makes me want to cry to think of it shut up and dilapidated. MCC is the only community college in that area to offer any kind of arts and that is why so many people go there. If someone can't convince the MCC administration of what a distastrous mistake they are making, thousands of opportunities to future students and the community will disappear.

Please take a minute to sign this petition. I would greatly appreciate it and I'm sure my sister and her fellow and future Macombers will too.
