Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... The word echoes off the walls of ( Read more... )

I never had a problem with discrimination. I've met all kinds of people. Talking mice and ducks, aliens, princesses and fairies. They're all my friends.

[A beat.]

The way I see it, it doesn't matter what you are; it's who you are that counts.

[...This response makes him want to punch something. So ignorant it's sickening, really.]

Don't be so naive. People are so blinded by their prejudices that they don't bother to look any deeper.

But not everyone's like that. Sure, some people are, but there's a whole bunch of different worlds out there. You can't judge everybody without getting to know them.

I have seen enough to know how the world works. Here I have encountered others whose experiences tell the same story; different worlds are not so different.

And what if you decide to give someone a chance, only to discover that they really are no different from the rest of the world's filth?

Life's full of risks. Sure it's possible that your friends could turn against you, but that doesn't mean they will. Sometimes you've just gotta trust them. It's better than being lonely.

[And that overall attitude just makes him think of Vanitas, really.]

And I'm not saying there aren't people out there who hurt others. There's light and darkness in everyone and everywhere, but if you focus on the bad, you'll never see the good in anybody. Nobody's perfect, and everybody makes mistakes.

That doesn't mean they're all filth, though.

Being lonely is far better than getting hurt time after time. You would not understand unless you have been forced through such a situation yourself.

Humans are selfish beings, serving only their own interests, doing whatever they must to give themselves an advantage. They persecute others based solely on the fact that they were born different, and use that as an excuse to treat them as cattle. What amount of "light" could negate this?

That's not true! What difference does it make if someone's human or something else? Just because someone's born human doesn't make 'em bad.

You're talking about people like they're all the same thing. Isn't that persecution too?

I am doing nothing that is unwarranted. I am simply drawing conclusions based off of many years of experience and observation. I will freely admit to hating humans, but ask yourself this: who hated whom first?

It doesn't matter who hates who first. Judging a whole species is wrong, no matter who or what does it.

Treating hate with hate only makes things worse.

The difference is that I hate them for what they have done, while they hated me simply for being born, as if I had a choice in the matter.

Hatred is the only way to protect yourself.

You keep talking like everyone hates you for being born, but there's no way that's true. Maybe some humans hurt you, and I understand that it's hard to get past that. That doesn't mean it's the same for all people in every world.

Hate might protect you, but it's not the only way. And all that hate will only hurt in the long run.

No, you don't understand. Contrary to what you seem to think, my story is hardly unique. But one of many experiences. Countless other hal others like me have faced the same loathing and consternation, the same loss and despair. It has been a feature of our world for thousands of years.

Then what would you suggest as an alternate means of protection?

I'm not saying you're the only one, but there's always exceptions. It doesn't mean what they did is right, but everybody's different. And maybe I don't really understand... I've never lost anybody close to me, and I don't know what I'd do if that ever happened. But I still don't see how a whole species can be bad, even if they're from completely different worlds with different backgrounds. I've always been taught to focus on the heart because the worlds are so different.

Guess that's just another thing I don't get.

[He doesn't believe Mithos, either, but it's hard to reason with somebody who's so set in his ways...]

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm always at my best when I'm with my friends-- or even when I'm just thinking about 'em. Having somebody to turn to when you're feeling down makes a huge difference.

You won't always have someone to rely on. Your friends could leave you, or be taken from you, at any time, and then what will you do? [Whether he's talking about Ven specifically, or just anyone in general...he isn't entirely sure either. But...nevermind.]

'Focus on the heart'...how incredibly corny. People focus only on themselves.

Just because they could doesn't mean they will. I try to stay positive, and if something does go wrong, I'll find a way to work things out.

Maybe some people do, but people aren't all the same. I've always been taught to follow my heart, because there's nothing stronger.

What of people whose hearts cannot be strong?
