Here I go with more controversial philosophy.

I believe that man is truely free in the heat of battle. The life we lead cannot be further from free. We are bound up in chains of laws and civilization. Furthermore we are bound by ethical and religious and moral morasses such that we cannot make a move that wouldn't violate someone's "freedom" on these levels. No, a man on the battlefield who can do his duty without thought is one who is not bound to morals or ethics, who cannot stand in violation of laws and civilization because there are no morals no civilization in war. Those who can kill are those who can free themselves. If one is strong enough to toss off the will of legality and damn the consequences he can do what he wants. Think not that I mean that we should go out kill fellow human beings. I mean that those who can choose to continue the life of another or cut him down are the ones who control freedom.
