Love Found by a Mistake... or by Fate? Chapter 18

Feb 09, 2011 20:04

The roar of a distant car engine got louder. It was 2 days when Key sold his house and permanently moved in Jonghyun’s house.  Jonghyun perfectly knew not to hope that this would be Taemin & Minho bringing Onew back. They rung me twenty minutes ago saying they would be ‘running a little late’. And usually when Taemin said ‘late’, he didn’t mean ten minutes late.

Abruptly, the engine cut out and he dashed outside to open the garage doors. This must be Key. Jonghyun checked his watch. Yup, five minutes early, from the extreme to the other.

Mind you, if Key was an extreme, Jonghyun was quite happy being stuck out there in the left field. Yes, he knows that their ride was going to be a little bumpy, but he could see things working out between the two of them.

Key grinned at Jonghyun from his car as he guided him inside and closed the garage doors behind him. Jonghyun walked round to the driver’s window and waited as Key pressed a button to wind it down. Acting on impulse, Jonghyun leaned in through the open window and surprised Key with a hot, sweet kiss.

The rush of endorphins Jonghyun gets every time he lays his eyes on Key was amazing, but a long lasting relationship takes more than just feel-good chemicals whizzing round his system. Only a fool would rush in too quickly, and he had never been a fool.

A crick on Jonghyun’s neck forced him to draw back and let Key out of the car.

“Welcome, yourself.” Key said, smiling sweetly at Jonghyun. Then he looked around. “Where’s Onew? I thought that Taemin & Minho already brought him back home.”

Jonghyun grimaced. “They were running late. So I have you to myself for the next couple of hours. Come on.” He tangled his fingers with Key’s and pulled him out of the side door of the garage and across the garden, where small patches of snow lingered. Most of the town was now back to normal, a warm wind from the west having melted the snow in all but shadiest spots.

Once through the back door, they fell into each other’s arms again, and the endorphins started partying.

Still kissing Key, Jonghyun pulled his hat and scarf off and threw them in random directions. Key laughed against Jonghyun’s lips. “Not fair.” He murmured. “You only got your indoor clothes.”

Key undid the top button of his coat, but left the others fastened as he kissed Jonghyun again. Everything went hazy and blurry for a minute and all Jonghyun was aware of was the sweet spiciness of Key’s perfume, the shallowness of their breathing, the pull of Key’s fingers as they hooked into the belt loops of Jonghyun’s jeans and contracted into fists.

Then, after hesitating for a second, Key ran his hands under Jonghyun’s sweater. Jonghyun flinched as Key’s cold fingers met his warm flesh, but the sensation was anything but unpleasant. The contrast of temperatures only heightened the sensation. Jonghyun pulled Key closer and deepened the kiss.

Key responded eagerly, surprising Jonghyun by sliding his arms up Jonghyun’s back, taking the sweater with them. Cold air rushed around Jonghyun’s torso, causing hot blood pumped through his veins.

Finding it impossible to go any further without breaking lip contact, Key pulled back from Jonghyun and continued to tug at the guy’s top upwards. Just before Key could pull it over Jonghyun’s head, he looked at him straight in the eyes. They stayed there like that while the kitchen clock loudly announced the seconds.

Wordlessly, Jonghyun lifted his arms over his head and Key disappeared as his sweater blocked his vision. Jonghyun’s jumper went the same way as Key’s scarf and hat.

“Not fair.” Jonghyun said, trying very hard not to let on he was shaking. And he didn’t think it was because he was cold. “You still got your outdoor clothes on.”

Jonghyun reached for Key, first dealing with the remaining large buttons on the front of Key’s coat and pushing it of his shoulders, before stroking Key’s face with his fingertips. That perfect bone structure might have produced a proud beauty, but he knew that the person inside was tough and tender, carrying the scars of the years. He wouldn’t add to them, he promise himself that.

The teasing humour evaporated and suddenly everything felt very serious, momentous. Should he stop Key now? Was Key really ready for this? What Key wanted and what Key needed might be two very different things.

“Key…”

Key silenced him with a kiss. “You have to trust me to make my own decisions, Jjongie. And I’ve decided…”

Jonghyun kissed him fiercely, then drew back to looks at him, hoping his eyes conveyed the storm surge of feeling that was crashing over him. “You know I love you, don’t you?” Key doesn’t have to guess. It was stamped in every look Jonghyun gave him, in every touch.

Key’s lips quivered and he tried to smile. A fat tear rolled down one cheek. “Yeah…” His answer was rich and soulful. “I do know that… ” Key’s hand traced the muscle of Jonghyun’s chest and he felt them quiver in response. “Show me, Jjong… Show me how much…”

That snapping sound in the back of Jonghyun’s head must be his self-control breaking because, right noe, he couldn’t think of anything but doing exactly what Key just said.

He would. He would show Key how much he loved him. He would make sure that Key would never doubt for a second, ever again, how rare and precious he was.

Jonghyun kicked Key’s fallen coat out of the way, picked Key up and carried him bridal-styled straight out of the kitchen and into the hallway. His foot was on the bottom step when the doorbell rang.

“Cooo-eee!”

Both of them froze on the spot.

Jonghyun knew that irritating little sound anywhere. Jessica.

There was a word he wanted to say , he couldn’t, just in case.

“W-who’s that?” Key asked Jonghyun.

Jonghyun sighed. “Just a little bitch that I broke up with, 5 months ago.”

“Oh.”

Key jumped out of his arms and ran back to the kitchen. Jessica’s blonde head was detectable as she tried to peek through the little window in the centre of the door. Thank goodness the glass was rippled and all. The bell sounded again and Jonghyun jumped.

“Jjong?! Are you there?!”

Realizing he couldn’t answer very well the door in his present state, Jonghyun charged back into the kitchen and started to fight with his sweater. Why, in a situation like this, did the neck hole and the armholes seem to switch places? When he’d finally popped his head out of the right opening, he ran back to the front door, yelling. “I’m coming!”

Jessica did not look impress when he swung the door open.

“About time.” Jessica said, pushing past himinto the hall. Never minding that she didn’t live here, technically she was supposed to wait to be asked.

Jonghyunin, in a fit of adrenaline, managed to slam the door, charge past his ex-girlfriend and make it to the kitchen door first.

Jessica looked at him strangely, then she eyed him from head to toe. Before, whenever she visit, he would offer her a drink but, now he doesn’t even ask her or ask her to sit? She’s beginning to hate that new guy even more.

---

“So you’re Jonghyun’s new boyfriend?”

Jessica secretly threw Key a glare without the couple noticing it. She eyed Key from head to toe, well, he doesn’t seem to be bad looking. But she hates him anyway.

Key nodded at Jessica’s question. Jonghyun’s ex-girlfriend was nothing like Se Kyung, her long blonde hair fell past he shoulders and ended in a blunt, straight line, and she was wearing a designer coat, military style, pulled in tight at the waist. Her high-heeled boots made a fingernails-on-a-blackboard sort of noise as she crossed the tiled floor and offered her hand.

“Hello.” Not exactly original, but it was polite and it didn’t give too much away. “I’m Kim Kibum.”

“Jessica.”

Something about this woman reminded Key of a cat arching with all of its fur frizzed up. She noticed that Jessica didn’t even bother to remove her gloves to shake hands. Somehow, that made the situation easier.

“Well, Key, I’m sure you’ll appreciate that you’re not the only one who leads a busy life. Jonghyun and I have some personal matters to disscuss -” as she said ‘personal’ she laid a hand on Jonghyun’s arm “ - so if you wouldn’t mind… ”

Much as to Key would have liked to walked over Jonghyun, slide his arms around his waist and stake her claim, this was neither the time nor place.

Key stood up and kissed Jonghyun on the cheek before walking upstairs, but before reaching the second step he looked back at Jonghyun. “I’ll wait for you upstairs, Jjong.”

Jonghyun smiled to Key before the other one vanished through the stairs. Then he turned to look at Jessica, an exasperated expression on his face. “You shouldn’t have return, Jessica.”

Her face crumpled, then she sniffed loudly again and wiped her nose with a tissue she got from her coat pocket. “I spent the last months following my heart, trying to work it out what will make me happy, what will fill the hole here - ” she jabbed a finger on her chest.

Jonghyun put his hands in his pockets. “well, maybe I did the right thing of breaking up with you.

She shook her head. ”No, I was happy - sort of. But it wasn’t enough. I wanted more.” She fixed herself. “Only I don’t seem to work out what more is.”

Welcome to the human race, honey.

“You’re a very good guy Jjong… And I was too blind to see that.” She looked him with large brown eyes and her breath caught in her throat. Oh no, Jonghyun had the feeling what was coming next and he willed her not to say it.

Give him strength! “We are so not doing this! Okay? You are going to collect your handbag, and leave!”

Jessica glared at him. “Fine.” She walked out of the front door and slammed it behind her. She was going to stew on this for days, he just knew it. Which was only going to make it worse.

As he headed back into the kitchen, prepared a dole out of cuddles and one-to-one attention, he heard the screech of tires in the lane.

Well… that ought to put any of her ridiculous ideas that he was still carrying a torch for her to rest. And about time too…
