So for those of you who haven't heard yet. I've got myself an official performance date. That's right, on February 27th I will be performing stand-up comedy for the very first (and hopefully not the last) time. Somehow I opted against random open mic night at random comedy club, coffee house, or poetry-esque night. I'm performing at an actual comedy showcase. My first time out I'm going to be competing for honor of being referred to as the funniest student comedian at MSU.
That's right, despite my best efforts to completely blow my audition (i.e. near-shaking nervousness and way-too fast timing) the good people at the U.A.B. thought that my material was good enough to put on stage at a University sanctioned event. If you want to come on down, it's the 27th, @ 9 P.M. at the International Center.
Alright, enough of that meek, "how'd I ever pull this off" crap. I'm really fucking excited. I'm going to be spending the next week and a half writing and re-writing most of my material. Not because I don't think it's good but because it can be better. But mainly to get it to the point where I'll be geniuenly proud of my act when I walk off that stage a week from Friday. Anything less would be selling myself short.
And yes, I was incredibly nervous performing more than a single joke for the first time. Not only that but it was in front of exactly two people. People who would be actively judging me without any sort of criticism (constructive or otherwise) once I'd finished. But, that being said, when I finished my set, my hands were fucking tingling. Like a low intensity version of what I used to feel when I'd get into a groove I was on the debate team in high school (which I was both pretty fucking good at and really liked). Honestly, I think this is the beginning of a love-affair with stand-up comedy.
So If you think you'd like my ridiculous joke-stories about the awkward sex I've had, the awkward family I have, and/or the strange Valentine's Day promotions around East Lansing, come on by, I'd love to have you.
