Release Day, Tower 2

This morning, there are two birds back on Tower 1, a male and a female. They are already impressive fliers and their quick return speaks well for their survival chances. Brian, our biologist and supervisor, also scoped one our birds perched about a quarter mile away. She is pretty chunky and may be the other female.

Meantime, the door is open on Tower 2. It’s been over an hour, but the soon-to-be fledglings must be sleeping in. They’ll emerge in their own time, however.

Update: It’s 10:15 and we’re finally starting to see some movement in the door of Tower 2. 39Red, a bird we released yesterday, has been hanging out in front of their box for a few hours, assuredly trying to show them how it’s done. It has started to drizzle, which will further slow the release and may mean we won’t see any more of our Tower 1 falcons today.
