I called Mercedes being a bitch. Unfortunately, I still think Kurt should have threatened her job.... cause that's just fucking unacceptable behavior on her part.

It's also her job! Kurt was prepared to drop EVERYTHING for Blaine, something that would screw over any career that he had as well as ruining his chances of being able to come back after he quit should he want to. He has commitments and contracts and Mercedes wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't make sure that he at least saw out the commitments that he'd signed up for.

And Blaine was a serious distraction from that. She's already seen Kurt run off with him, be so distracted he was unprofessional on set, and now he's throwing away a golden opportunity for... what? A boy? A fanHer job is safeguard Kurt's career, to work in his best interests and make sure that the image he is presenting is one that isn't going to screw over anyone - companies, films, Kurt himself. Her role as his PR/publicist is to make sure he's not professionally shooting himself in the foot - breaking contract or being distracted could do that ( ... )

It certainly seemed like she was trying to stop him. Agreed that Kurt needs to carry out the commitments he's already agreed to, but Mercedes shouldn't take it upon herself to control what he can and cannot do, when she doesn't even try to understand what he wants out of life.

Wanting fame and fortune is one thing, forcing it onto someone who is ready to give it up for a normal life is something completely different. It's his choice if he wants to go big, or go home... and if he wants to go home... she can't force him to stay in the industry against his will. Which it comes across as if she was trying to do. Trying to control what he can and cannot do as a person, and not just as an actor.

Kurt's already "run off" on her once with Blaine - he didn't even give her the chance to be OK with it, just ditched his phone and left! It's no wonder she isn't happy with him having contact with Blaine while he sees out his 'notice' as it were. She blames Blaine for Kurt's decision - is she wrong to? Kurt's leaving because of Blaine.

Is she wrong to be annoyed at the fact she's spent two years building him up, constructing the whole New York facade, only for him to go "see ya" when he finally hits what they've been working towards?

And who says Kurt doesn't want the fame and fortune? ;-)

It's not wrong for her to be annoyed. It's wrong for her to try and prevent it from happening (confiscating his phone, changing his email address, trying to get Blaine to leave when he just wants to see Kurt ( ... )

Oh she's clearly not the same Mercedes; for one she's much older! But the determination to have the best is still there. The "I'm not taking any of your BS" is still there.

We know Kurt isn't leaving just because of Blaine. But from her perspective: Kurt meets Blaine, Kurt runs off with Blaine, Kurt quits. Confiscating everything was her way of keeping Kurt focused on the task at hand. (It's OK, Kurt had a plan. Rachel just got there first.)

Also Blaine just turned up at Kurt's workplace. That's a distraction Kurt shouldn't have when he's filming and is just bad practice for any partner, friend, whatever.

(I'm not feeling attacked, btw, I just love defending characters!)

I agree on the last part, but determination to have the best isn't something you should be forcing on others.

I may be determined to develop the best apple pie recipe....that doesn't mean I'm going to force my (future) daughter to try and be a superb pie baker.

Ah, but as a teacher I am determined to get the best out of my students, even the ones that just want to sleep through first lesson on a Monday morning... ;-)

Yes, but you're not going to force them to do their work. You can't sit next to all of them at a table and force them to do their homework, or to read their assignments. You can have all the determination in the world to get your students to do the work, but if they're determined to have something different than you want, which is going to win out?

You (and Mercedes) can be frustrated all you want, but you cannot physically force them to do anything they do not want to do.

No, but it won't stop me (and her) fighting what we consider to be a wrong decision until the very last second... ;-)
