Madeline's mind is less "Candy Land" and more "Grimm's Fairy Tales". She is very young, but she is also a savant; she remembers every snippet of information that is passed around her in perfect detail. Therefore, the little girl has a rather sophisticated view of human nature...for a six year old. Her imagination isn't exactly dark, but more a representation of the world in which she is forced to live. She fashioned it to be like a fairy tale town; The only way to get around town is via horseback. There is a blacksmith, a baker, candlestick maker, a pub, a hostel, a town square, and any number of small houses where your character can live. Madeline takes care of everyone in her world, therefore, your character will always have food and clothing...unless, of course, they upset her and she decides to withhold these things for a laugh.
The most important thing to remember about Madeline's imagination is anything can and will happen. Seriously. At any given time, there could be a massive influx of dragons, an evil overlord invasion, or a suspicious amount of small, furry woodland creatures. What Madeline conceptualizes is entirely unique and unpredictable. In between these upsets, characters could live relatively normal lives, once they became accustomed to their surroundings. They can get jobs working in the local shops, or they can just gadabout the kingdom, searching for answers as to where they are and why they are there. Occasionally Madeline will choose to take some of them out of her head to play, and at that point, they may be able to find answers. Once they find out where they are, it will be up to them whether or not they share that information with the others.
