In which I have grumbly thoughts and come off as arrogant and self-involved. But I'm so sick of people thumbing their nose up at anything that isn't Steve/Danny.
Bar putting this all in tags, I figured it was easier to post this here. No chance of things being reblogged:
And once again I find myself saying: you can ship Steve/Danny, and still like other aspects of the show, people.
I ship Steve/Danny. I ship them in that crazy/fluttering heart/wide awake in the middle of the night due to feelings/plotting fic at work/staring at the wall lost in thought/randomly laughing on the train because something they've said has popped into my brain/dying to get home so I can read fic/ way.
I love them. In a sea of multi-shippers and smaller-pairing shippers, I am that pesky Steve/Danny shipper. They are my favourite part of the show. They are my ship. When the day is said and done, they're the thing that means the most to my heart.
But cheese and crackers, people. That doesn't mean the whole show should be about what I like! The fact that Danny, (who is my favourite character, beyond all sanity), wasn't in the episode until 11 minutes in, does not mean the show is going down the drain.
Can't we take a second to sit back, and think: "hey. Isn't Kono amazing? She's a young detective, she can handle herself and use her brain. Isn't it spectacular that she's flying to Maui to investigate a homicide? What an honour, what a huge responsibility, and she handles it all so well."
And the same applies to Cath. If you don't like Cath because you've looked at her character and thought, "nope, not for me." I can respect that. But not liking her just because she interferes with Steve/Danny? Really? That's ALL there is to her? That's the ONLY thing she should be judged on, how she affects our ship?
There's only this tiny thing where she's an Officer with Naval Intelligence, can superbly follow leads and is highly skilled in self-defense. To say nothing of the fact that she seems to be a genuinely nice person, (but that's more character based than fact based, so it's more subjective).
Season three has been such a gift to Steve/Danny shippers. I mean, we have literally had Steve choose to die alongside Danny, rather than abandon him. That wasn't fanfic. That was canon. Steve pretty much said, "nope, I'm not leaving you, I am fully prepared to die right here with you." That happened. Steve and Danny get much more screen-time than all of the other characters, their relationship is given much more attention than all of the other characters's relationships.
Even in the space of Cath being a regular, there's been more invested in Steve/Danny than in Steve/Cath.
So can't we maybe sit back and feel a bit of happiness when other relationships and storylines get a spot of sunshine? Can't we think, "hey, you know what? So Danny isn't in the start of this ep? I'll deal. Because it means Kono is getting some time to do stuff, other than tap buttons on the screen in HQ and give the boys directions."
Every single character in this show if flawed, (well, except Chin, he's a higher being), but seriously. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is without problems, and everybody deserves their moments.

Last but not least: hello eljay! If you're interested, which I wouldn't blame you if you're not - I can now be found at
ibyshire. Tumblr is a lot more active and immediate than eljay, so give it a go, if you're after that. :D
