Quite a few people have asked me to post pictures of my chickens, including the recent canary chicks and the baby avocado.

The chicks are doing fine. They're getting really big, and they've started bouncing around in the nest. I'm currently taming little Felix, and mum and I have been discussing adopting a year old green cheek conure with splayed legs, so I think my hands are full.

Oh, I should mention a funny moment from this morning. I nearly fell over, I laughed so hard.

Lisa: "what are you?"
Littlefoot: "a little blue chicken!"
Lisa: "what are you?"
Littlefoot: "A LITTLE BLUE CHICKEN!"

He picks things up so quickly!

Toasty thinks that you should click to see more.

As you probably know by now, the yellow fella is Toasty. I have had him for a little over a year. He is perhaps the most neurotic of my birds. He will step up happily onto my finger, but will not be touched, patted or scritched with fingers. He will, however, have full on cuddles with my nose, chin and cheek. He is the biggest talker of the flock, and is also the clearest talker. He is happy to sit on anybody's shoulder, and will come when called. He is fully flighted, though he rarely feels the inclination. He was my first bird, and though I have no favourites, he's very dear to me.

This here is Stella, whose name has grown somewhat, to Stella-Bella. Stella is an absolute sweetheart, but she's known for being a little peculiar, and a little clingy. She flies excellently, and is always the first to fly to me. Even when I don't want her to. *g* She loves my father - she will often commit mutiny, and fly to him. Stella is happy to have her head scritched, especially by my father. Stella does not speak at all, which is fine. :) She is fully flighted.

This here, is Littlefoot. Littlefoot is a bag of beans. He is a very happy bird. Especially when presented with something sugary, like a grape. He is quite a talker, though he's not particularly clear. He is happy to be hugged and patted and cuddled all over, and despite his powerful beak, has only bitten me in anger once in the five months he's been here. Littlefoot's life is basically this:

This, is Felix. Otherwise known as The Flying Avocado. I'm still figuring out his personality. He can be sedate for hours, just sitting around. Then, the next second, he straps on his jet pack, and zooms around my room. He's still a baby - eight weeks old - so I'm not sure if his friendliness is because of his personality, or his youth. He has a habit of falling behind and between things, and needing rescue.

A nice shot of the colour and detail on his wings. He currently has a one wing clip, which is not what I'd choose, personally, but it's the way he came to me. I plan on letting him grow his wings out, to be flighted - however, I will keep him clipped for the moment, so that he can grow used to people.

This is Chester. He is the proud father, and a big whistler. He is boss of the aviary. He has a messy tail - he always has, since before he was with us. He's quite happy with it. *G*

This is Penny. She is the proud mother. She is, by far, the smartest and the bravest bird in the aviary. She is always the first to try out any new toy or food.

These are their three chicks. I haven't named them yet, for fear of tempting fate, but I will do so soon. Any suggestions?

This is Pepper, my male African Fire Finch.

And this is Fred, my male Star Finch. And no, I'm not a meany - this chain is just something I hook nests and stuff over. They have natural perches, but for some reason they like to play with the chain. *G*

I have a few other birds, who just refused to pose for the camera. *G*

Lastly - flapping!
