"A picture of Awen and her meeting with her new friend Kane"
Today we took Miss Awen to Petco to get a new collar and one of those new fangled fishing line like reel em in and out leash thingies. You know they can run ahead and pull out extra and then you can reel em back in or hold the line where you want to thinguses. This is because A. It makes walking/jogging easier and more fun and B. We are learning obedience stuffs so it's just better. It even has little pooperscooper baggies on it in a built in carrier so we can keep the world a happy place.
So there we are in the doggie treat aisle, looking for some festive treats for training, when here comes this BIG puppy. His name is Kane and he is a 3 month-old Rottweiler to our little Awen's 7 month-old self. Now Awen hasn't really been around puppies or many humans for that matter so this was a new experience for her. After all the butt sniffing and running around the legs was said and done, these two became fast friends! Soon they were playing and whooting around like best buds. (Kane's owner was a very nice woman named Lisa who reminded me once again why I love living in the real South)
PLUS guess what was on sale???????????? Just what every puppy needs who wants to play FRISBEE!!!!!!!! Her hero and mine...
(The cat looks soooooooo thrilled)
In these pics you can see her new collar and her proud playing!
We went to the park and played Whooooooooot! (not Excalibur... he stayed home the whole time)
On a fantastical happy note, I went to the Word Catchers Writers Meeting with Phil and wow! It was amazing. Simply amazing. No one runs around with titles or worries about anything except encouraging and helping each other. There are a few small publishing houses, writers of all ages and a very warm and fuzzy group. We got there a few minutes late (Memphis is huge and scary some days...) and they were doing a word search puzzle which our guest speaker brought. Everyone stopped and made us feel right at home! Then we went to searching. (I SO LOVE word searches!!) When time was called we were only a couple words behind the leader so we got a prize too! Yay for Snowman Bells! Plus I found the author's name when no one else had. (I finished the puzzle btw...) Her name is Alethea Kontis. Her first children's book is "AlphaOops: The Day Z Went First," she co-edited the SF all-star Elemental: The Tsunami Relief Anthology for Tor Books, (of which I am a proud owner of now because I was able to buy something of hers and 100% of the money goes to the Tsunami victims - all the authors wrote for free) and she has a dark fantasy and horror small press, Nyx Books. She also penned the Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark-Hunter Companion. So that was exciting. We also have a guy who can disappear and reappear without turning his ring, and someone who has PINK hair.
We then went out to TGIF and had some great conversation as well as food. (Plus they seated us by the R2-D2 and C3-PO picture how's that for a sign?) They are hosting the NANOWRIMO stuff so it's all good. Plus their website has not only a cheering on sections (and up to date info and changing info), how to and general craziness, but there is also a place where people can upload their writing and anyone who wants to can critique it and give them good advice including perhaps where they should market it. In short, all a writing group can and should be, they do appear to be. So I'm super jazzed about that.
So it was an awesome day all around.
