universidad parte dos

You guys, I totally forgot about this for a few months. In my defense, no one ever updates their journals, either. Nonetheless, it is time for my yearly update.

I am a sophomore in college now. That's pretty cool, I think. I am still a science major, but I had a change of heart when I ended up taking two Classics courses last year when I really had no intention of taking more than one. So instead of minoring in a science as well (an idea which really didn't last very long, once I saw how little free time I would have), I am a humanities minor. Exciting. Um, what else. I'm still in the orchestra, but I'm debating if I want to keep doing that next year or just stick to private lessons. My schedule as an important scientist is pretty busy this year, though this will at least be the worst of it. I have three labs, for instance. Next year I'll be going back to one or two, which is a lot more doable.

Things I might also be doing next year: going abroad? We'll see. I kind of left that idea alone after I found out that if I want to go to a Spanish-speaking country, it might help my chances of acceptance to take a Spanish class here, even though I took AP Spanish in high school and tested out of the second language requirement entirely by taking the Spanish placement exam at the beginning of last year. Well, whatever. I can go to an English-speaking country, too. Or not. Again: we'll see.

Oh, but what about the summer? As it turns out, I almost did the exact same thing as I did in 2009. A few things were different, though. I went on vacation! That was pretty fun, because I got to see some buildings that are incomprehensibly old and learned the significance of exchange rates and inflation and that kind of thing. I took a class! It was interesting, and I did well in it, so I'd say it was time and money well spent. Also, last summer was the end of my lucrative career in fast food, because I couldn't stand the majority of the shift supervisors and really ought to be looking at internships for next summer anyway. Preferably paying ones, though I know those are few and far between, and probably incredibly competitive.

You know what else happens over the summer? My birthday. It's still hard for me to think of myself as a 19-year-old, because nothing really happens when you turn 19. I mean, I actually forgot my age a few days ago. I thought I was still 18 because 19 is such an insignificant birthday. 19 is just an awkward number, but I bet I'll get used to it right around the time I turn 20, and then I'll have to get used to writing a whole new number at the beginning of my age. What a hassle.
