best nite since moving back to traverse city tonite, but i'm fucking exhausted i am now deciding to finish this in the morning bleaghhhhhhh
mmmkay, i have a feeling this is going to be an undertaking.
Last nite, was the Enchanted Forest show that Maren has been planning for a long time now. She set up a stage in the woods next to the creek and put down rugs for seating and flowers and ferns and candles and little bubbles on every seat. It was amazing. There were also gingerbread and chocolate cookies and 'Peaceful Peninsula' Tea from Serenity downtown. Unfortunately after a poetry reading and the first artist, "Would you could you with a Mouse's" set it started to sprinkle so we all quick grabbed the equipment and decorations and ran back up to the house and set up under the car port. It rained really hard and even hailed a bit but for only about 5 minutes, after that we had a rainbow break to get some tea and cookies and look at the rainbow and then came back to hear "The Bottom Feeders," "Pat Carrol aka Merry Christmas," "Tea Party" and "Breathe Owl Breathe."
All the bands were fantastic, I was really REALLY impressed with the last 3. Pat is my friend Robby's good friend and tonite was my first time meeting him. He thought that it was supposed to be a costume party and came dressed as Larry Flint, which ended up looking like Jack Dawson from Titanic after the rain. I loved everything that he played, including a group sing/play along to R. Kelly's Remix to ignition to celebrate his charges being aquitted. His voice was just, idk, beautiful, and his songs were exactly what i wish i could create. Robby and I were listening to Aeroplane Over the Sea on the way to the show, and i definitely picked up on a Jeff Magnum song writing influence from him.
Next was Tea Party; Maren's band. The MC/Poet Evan made the comment that beautiful is the only word he could think of to come close to describing their music and i'd have to agree. They had great 3 part harmonies and Two guitarists with really impressive finger picking. Maren played keys. They played a song that Maren wrote after seeing Harold and Maude and it was perfect.
After Tea Party was the headlining band, Breath Owl Breathe, from Ann Arbor, they were Amazing. A PERFECT end to one of the best local smaller shows i've ever witnessed, I really love when a band has great chemistry and personality and it shines through in the songs and in between. Like when you feel like you're already friends with them. They played all kinds of different instruments from guitar, cello, bass, to banjo, fiddle and toy piano. I ended up buying their latest album and a cd, despite the 15$ price for each, but they drove all the way up and i wanted to help out.
After the show robby and i went and hung out at our friend Dan's for a bit and hung out and talked and watched a bit of Planet Earth on Blu Ray, which was amazing, but definitely not a good choice for an end of the night viewing.
