[John sounds tired. Pained. He's been quiet for a while now, but he's breaking his silence to try and lift his own spirits. It sort of works...]
Once, I believed God could only create. That He could just bring life. But our existence isn't just life. It's hardships, you see. So much hardship packed into a shitty, dented can with a pretty label. Why would anyone want that? Why would anyone want to bring life into a world like this?
[He starts to say something more about it and then stops himself. Taking a deep breath, he continues after a long pause.]
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
But new in this world? No, that's not right at all. Before the world can become new, before we become new, we have to look at the environment. Only then can you truly be innocent.
