Pride. Some might consider it the worst of all the sins. Certainly Dante did, when he wrote his Divine Comedy.
But that’s the trick about sins. The worst ones are tolerated more than the lesser ones. Lust is treated more severely than Pride. After all, no one’s ever been hurt by someone’s pride, have they? But that’s the problem. While you might not lay a hand on another person, you are killing your relationship with God. By thinking yourself above the rest of the world, above the masses of unwashed sinners, you assume that God holds you higher than the rest. You assume God’s will. That amount of arrogance cannot be tolerated.
This man, this Sergeant Neil Howie, called himself a man of God. He placed himself in a position of power, not just in the world of man, but in the eyes of God. He came to you, preaching redemption, but did not give it. He was not in a position to preach to you. And yet he still saw himself as better than the rest of you. His self righteous attitude was ignored by many of you who struggled so desperately to cling to something.
And that’s why he had to fall. He was so far consumed by his sin that he didn’t even see it anymore.
So you see…I have saved him. By showing him that pride, that sin, I have given the fear of God back to him.
It had to be him. Otherwise, you would have dismissed this as another killing of someone “deserving.” An addict. A murderer.
I am not Amanda. I don’t believe in redemption for these people. The Sergeant will wake up and hate me. But he will always be prideful. I didn’t do this to change him. I did it to change you. So that you might understand that no one is immune.
Listen, little sheep. The shepherd replaced his crook with a scythe.
