I just came across this '1001 books to read before you die' list and so now I'm going to highlight the ones I've read and possibly take note of the ones I haven't read. I'm into goals. But, we'll see.

  1. Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
  2. Saturday - Ian McEwan
  3. On Beauty - Zadie Smith
  4. Slow Man - J.M. Coetzee
  5. Adjunct: An Undigest - Peter Manson

Did you like American Psycho?
I didn't really care for Less Than Zero or the follow up (which I barely remember, hence no referenced title), but I thought A.P. and Glamorama were a trip, especially the latter.

Also, plz read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles and tell me what is so great about Murakami.

PS. This list is approximately 35% invalidated by the inclusion of The Secret History.

I don't understand why, since it's only organized by century (and it's possible that's your doing), they couldn't have grouped works by the same author together. That would have made the whole thing so much less tedious.

You should read some more Thomas Hardy and also some Dostoyevsky. I wouldn't thought the latter would be right up your alley.

I did not group these, at all. Simple copy and paste.

I agree with the grouping. It would have made it easier with the highlighting, as when I like an author I tend to read a lot of their shit.

Thomas Hardy is on the list, although I am very open to suggestion and another recommendation moves him up the list, so thank you.

I have avoided Dostoyevsky as I didn't really start reading until about 4 years ago and my comprehension level was not so great before.

Now, it's alright and I'm into tackling some more 'difficult' authors.

Also, have you read any Phillip Roth? If I could recommend one author, ever, to anyone, he'd be it.

He's amazing. Seriously. Check him out.

I tried masturbating w/ one of Roth's books, once. It didn't work.

I didn't see what was supposed to be so great about his prose, either.

I think it was Portnoy's Complaint. Enlighten me.

You should really read some James Baldwin.

Anything, anything, really, but Another Country, Giovanni's Room, and portions of If Beale Street Could Talk are just fucking astounding.

I dunno about his essays though. I've never been a non-fiction kind of girl.

Lol. Duly noted. It's earlier here than it is there (2:56, my time) and I'm totally sober, but I'm going to have a beer, now.

We can never meet, my little scapegoat. It's just too dangerous.

For your information: it's a warm can of Miller Lite, as the only thing refrigerated is a giant can of Guinness.
