I consider myself a bright girl. Maybe not exceptionally so, but certainly not lacking to a detrimental extent. So why is it so that the "What's the worse that could happen?"s for daily, what others may consider mundane or ritual routines, can be so logically thought out in the calm of my own mind - where I can then comfortably imagine carrying ( Read more... )

I think what might help in your situation might be cognitive behavioral therapy. I haven't been through any of this myself, I can only really go by things that have helped my brother, but he has an excellent cb therapist who has really helped him a lot. It might be a matter of finding a therapist that know what he or she is doing, because there are a great many out there who don't. :\ Something else that helped my brother's OCD was taking vitamin B12. I can't quite remember the reason why, something having to do with helping balancing out the brain chemicals probably. That might be an option to discuss with your thereapist.

You know what's wrong and you want to change it, which is really excellent.

Cognitive behavioral therapy was only just recommended to me by a counselor (pffft, after four years of this stuff) and along with your suggestion I think it'd definitely be worth checking out.

I thought B12 was (possibly still is) given as a treatment for cyanide poisoning? I think my Dad told me that, so it may be wrong.

Who'd have thought one vitamin could be so darn helpful!?
