ya so last nite i watched yet another movie. this time it was at home and with jen... the one day i had like 4 ppl call me 2 do something i didnt feel like goin out... for some reason i dont feel like goin out on the weekends only really the weekdays when everyone is workin and no one wants to do n e thing... it's really wierd. anyways it was called the rose and it is loosely based on janis joplin's life. Mrs conkling recommended it to me and i talked to my mom about it and she remembered seeing it when she was younger and loved it. It was w/ bette midler. she did really good but i felt the script and directing was weak. the movie overall though was okay. it had some promising moments especially the end... like i said bette midler did really good and i would recommend it to watch only if you have a lot of time and are in the mood to watch a movie... because if it wasnt for bette midler the movie would of probably sucked. if you are going to see a movie about any famous rock artist, let alone janis mother fucking joplin, you expect to see alot of sex drugs and rock n roll. there was some of that in the movie but they were either done very poorly or not in an adequate amount. the live concert moments parts were way too long and altogether boring despite a good acting performance. there were no real drug use, which is ironic because she dies of a drug overdose. you do see the horrors that lead from an extensive use of drugs, but the movie never shows the actual usage of it, which should be an incredibly moving and repulsive moment all at once, head on. the sex in the movie was basically non-existant. the showing of the unhibited sex and drugs in her life and others like her are extremely important, not only to show the path that led them to their untimely death, but as a criticil part of the their human psyche. the wild sex she had wasnt just for fun, it was the shadow of a long time of emotional scars caused by childhood problems. by cutting this out, the movie lost alot of heart and became altogether placid... lol hopefully the new movie coming out with renee zellwiger will be a little better
