[It’s late afternoon, the sun only half visible over the treetops of the forest out in the distance. The Doctor is ambling slowly along the streets of the village, taking his time to carefully inspect anything of interest that he passes. His usual energy and boundless enthusiasm is down a few notches from where it was before, given the recent ( Read more... )

Jenny...? Oh, God. I'm sorry to hear that.

Yes, well, can't really changed what's happened. She hasn't regenerated yet either- that's a bit unsettling.

[Regeneration tweaks her out, a bit. But:] It's not permanent here, y'know. She'll be back. A week, maybe ten days.

I reckon that's good, then. But even still... It's not something I ever plan on coming out to.

Do you need someone to talk with? Maybe some coffee? Anything?

Not really one for coffee, I'm afraid. However, could always use some companionship I suppose. Talk about the weather, perhaps. Haven't noticed any particular sport around, though.

Meet me at the bar, then? I'll make you my latest masterpiece.

[She's cryptic on purpose. She wants to distract you.]

Masterpiece, hm? I'll be there in... [He looks around at his surroundings and estimates travel time after choosing a path.] about fifteen minutes, give or take.

[He'll take Distractions for 200, Alex.]

[In fifteen minutes' time, Buffy is casually occupying a space behind the bar. She's new to the job, but enthusiastic.]

[He steps into the bar and peers around, looking for her. The Doctor quirks a brow upon noticing her behind the bar and takes a seat.]

So, you work here, then?

That would be a yes. But only a recent yes. I'm still leaning the ropes.

[Looks her up and down, then at that wall of booze just about every bar in creation seems to have.]

Would it be unwise to just ask for a water?

[She smiles, indulgently.] You're talking to a girl who can't even sniff a bottle of wine without wincing. If water's what the gentleman wants, then water's what the gentleman'll get.

[She twists back towards the bottles, hesitating....is this what you want, Doctor?]

[He sees what she's looking at and the brows go up again. If she values her sanity she should keep the alcohol away from him. The mixture of smells from the different varieties alone are making him a little lightheaded.]

Tap water's just fine. Thank you. You ever tempted to swipe something for yourself?

[And now he's trying to be funny.]

I'm not much of a drinker. [She offers, sliding a tall glass of H2O over the counter.] Guy--the owner of this place? I think he offered me the job out of pity. A way to keep me occupied.

[And now, her plan is to keep the Doctor occupied.]

Got to have something to do with your days, I suppose. [He nods, taking a sip of water.]

How else have things been with you? I've been a bit, ah, 'holed up' as of late.
