Pops died. Tonight, at 7:00. I didn't find out until about an hour ago, because I was at the beach. With my family. We were on the way back and we were listening to the techno version of the song "Listen to Your Heart." My dad loves that song, so much, and so do I. I would go as far as saying that its a family favorite. Anyways, well, my dad was dancing to it and then he turned to me and he said "It just doesn't get much better then this," and I said "ya, sure Dad," and he said "No, I'm serious, I am just really really happy right now, and then we danced. And I felt happy.
And then we came home, and the phone rang, and Sydon picked it up and no one was there so she hung up. Then it rang again, and she picked it up again, but no one was there again. Then it rang a third time, and my dad picked it up and handed it to my sister (Vic). Then Vic talked and then hung up and started crying. I immediately jumped to the thought that my mom had broken up with Ted but no, it was worse. "Pops is dead." That was all she said. And I was shocked, I didn't cry, I couldn't comprehend. I put my head in between my knees and tried to breathe but there was a big lump in my throat like I was going to cry, but I couldn't do that either. And my dad whispered that it was ok for me to cry and I murmered that I knew, but I still didn't. Then I realized I wouldn't get to see Pops, ever again, and then I cried, then stopped.
Then my dad asked me if I needed anything and I asked for a muffin. I sat there and ate that muffin in a blur, I was silently crying the whole yime, I couldn't even see anything I just remembered feeling hateful toward everyone, especially my little sister.
And now I don't really know what to do. I am not good at losing people. He was Meg Splaine's grandpa, and I still consider him my own. He was funny, and he swore a ton. I truly will miss him. But I don't know what I am doing to do next weekend because I have a feeling that the whole time I am with my dad, I will be thinking about how Laura doesn't even have one anymore. I am sorry for typos in this, and for the short, chopy sentences, I just can't function right now.
