OK, so my uncle is coming out to visit. He's got terminal cancer and is probably going to be dead by June. Guy is not in good shape. He's staying in a hotel about an hour away so he can visit various relatives in the area. Here's the thing... he has not made specific plans yet. With anyone. Heads up. Dan has a life, too. Dan cannot leave his entire week free just so you can visit one day. Fucking tell me when you're gonna visit and I'll be home with my family to see you one last time. But really, just cuz you're dying doesn't give you an excuse to be an asshole. The world doesn't revolve around you anymore than any other time.
I have a good friend. We'll call him "Bear". Well, everyone calls him Bear. He's got terminal cancer, too. The guy's my age, and barring a miracle he will be dead by next August. I have never seen anyone act so classy about dying. He still goes out. He doesn't make a scene. He still has fun and guess what? Everyone wants to spend time with him! Not because he's dying and they feel sorry for him, but because he's an awesome fucking person to be around! There's a man I'll buy a beer for any day of the week. At least until next September.
Thanks, Bear, for being one of the classiest motherfuckers on the planet and for knowing how to die with dignity. To my uncle, who will never read this, I love you. You're family, and you were the first person I saw Lord of the Rings with, and that means alot. But I really wish you would have some dignity insofar as how you handle the whole "dying" thing. You're a better person than this.
On a happier note, I'm going to see Avatar with Cerrah tonight. In 3D Imax! This will either be the awesomest date ever or a big waste of money. Hopefully, it's the former, but either way it will be a good time.
And come to think of it, my usual "Angry" userpic is rather inappropriate given the subject matter (no, I do NOT want my uncle to die). But fuck it. That's my angry userpic, and I don't change it for anyone.
