It’s late at night. Olivia knows that she should have left the lab hours ago, but something about this case has her working late, in an empty lab. There’s something about it she just can’t shake. Walter, Peter and Astrid have long gone home, and now it’s just her, alone, with the files and the lab. It’s vaguely creepy, if she tries to think about it, so she doesn’t. She just focuses on her work, and tries to put everything else out of her mind.

Everything else until a police box lands in the middle of the lab.

Yes, she said “lands.”

Olivia has seen a lot of weird things in her time. It comes with the territory when it comes to her job. But this-this is almost to mundane to be real, and she tenses, one hand automatically going for her gun while she waits for it to do … something. The seconds tick by slowly, dragging by like minutes until the door opens and-

-A strange man in a bowtie, a redhead in a skirt, and odd man with a very distinct nose stepped out through the front door.

“Harvard University!” Bowtie says with a grin as he looks around. “2010-well, 2010ish, really, but who can ever be certain these days. This lab is beginning of humanity’s first letting fingers reach out into the universe to see what is out there, what is possible. Doctor Walter Bishop--well, he was almost as brilliant as me.”

There is a beat.

“Well, maybe not as brilliant as me, but he was rather brilliant in his own right. Started the implosion of two universes, and it takes a great deal of brilliance to do that.”

“Doctor, the implosion of two universes doesn’t seem like a good thing,” Nose replies, giving ‘Doctor’ a look. “Should we be here right now?”

That would be her cue.

“No, actually,” Olivia replies, aiming her gun at the intruders with one hand and holding up her badge with the other. “You shouldn’t be.”

“Always with the guns, you are,” ‘Doctor’ mutters unappreciatively as he turns around to face her. “You point a gun at anything you don’t understand and-” He stops when he looks at her dead on, eyes narrowing just slightly. “Oh, what are you.”

He starts moving closer to her, and she takes a step back gun in the air. “FBI. Don’t come any closer.”

“FBI! Of course, of course you’re FBI. Who else would you be, in an FBI sanctioned laboratory,” he continues, still advancing on her, even though she told him to stop. “But the question is, which FBI agent are you? And why are you so very interesting to look at.”

She straightens a bit, trying to find a way to not be unnerved by that statement, but she squares her shoulders and refocuses again. “You first. Who are you?”

“Right. Always so suspicious you agents are.” He pauses, looking a little frustrated, but he relents. “I’m the Doctor, this is Amy and Rory-we’re time travelers.”

“Doctor!” Amy, the redhead, protests, and the Doctor waves a hand.

“Oh, I’m sure she’s seen crazier things if she’s working in the Fringe Division.” He smirks a bit as he turns to face her again, before raising an eyebrow. “Now. We’ve told you who we are-”

The Doctor. Time travelers. It all seems a little too good to be true, but that’s how most things tend to go on this end of the spectrum. She takes a breath, and slowly starts to lower her gun. “My name’s Olivia Dunham.”

The minute the words are out of her mouth, the smile that breaks across the Doctor’s face is indescribable. “Of course, of course you’re Olivia Dunham. The woman who can walk between worlds. All that Cortexiphan in your system. It makes you glimmer, like things from other universes do to you.”

And that just puts her on edge again. Pulling that kind of information out of thin air did not have a way of making her feel comfortable. “And how do you know about that?”

“I’m what’s called a Time Lord. This unit, these people, they are a crucial moment in history. You, Olivia, you, are perhaps the most brilliant of them all because you the girl who could walk between worlds.”

A time traveler extolling her praises. There’s something you don’t see every day. She tilts her head to the side and tries to process this, and she just-can’t. It’s too much at once.

“I think you need to leave.”

“Yes. Right. Probably should. Wouldn’t want to piss off the lovely FBI agent here, or get arrested or-anything of the sort. So. We are going to get back in our time machine, and we’re going to go, but I have to say, Special Agent Dunham-” There is a beat as he ushers Amy and Rory back onto the odd blue box, and then he turns back from the door, flashing her a smile. “-it was a privilege to have been held at gunpoint by you. And I don’t say that very often.”

Olivia just becomes even more confused. “I don’t hear it.”

“Well. Right then, off we go. You have a very pleasant evening.”

He disappears back into the box, and a few seconds later, the box starts making noise and slowly fades from view, leaving Olivia standing in the middle of the lab, gun in hand, standing dumbfounded.

“I need to get more sleep.”
