“Your girlfriend is a vampire slayer?”
Buffy’s nose wrinkled a bit, as she and Hardison sat on the couch in Nate’s apartment. Eliot was standing in front of them, clearly very upset about something, but Buffy wasn’t entirely sure what that was. She’s pretty sure she just saved his life earlier. That should be happy-making, not rant-inducing. She tipped to the side slightly, leaning in to whisper in Hardison’s ear.
“Is he always this angry?”
“Generally, yes. Angry seems to be Eliot’s thing.”
“Oh. Okay.” She straightened a bit, before nodding. “Yes. I am a vampire slayer. But it’s easier to just say ‘slayer’ because really, I slay everything-demons, warlocks, the occasional hell god-I’m your all-purpose evil remover.”
Eliot held up a hand, closing his eyes for a moment. This whole revelation of the supernatural was sitting a little harder on his shoulders than it probably should. Buffy had seen a lot of reactions to revealing that there was more to their world than what was on the surface, but this was something different. Her face softened a bit, and she waited for him to speak.
“I-So you’re saying that all of this was real? The demons and the monsters, and all of that?”
“Yup.”
“What about Wolfram and Hart?”
Buffy say up ramrod straight, and Hardison frowned, glancing between the two of them. “I might be wrong, but I don’t think that was a good reaction.”
Buffy just flashed him a look, before turning back to Eliot. “You know about Wolfram and Hart?”
“Just answer the question. Are they-”
“Connected?” she supplied. “And not in the good way? Yeah. How do you know about Wolfram and Hart?”
Eliot shook his head. “Doesn’t matter.”
“Yes, it does.”
Eliot’s head snapped up with a glare again, and Hardison’s hand landed on Buffy’s arm, pushing her back towards the couch. “It’s cool. Let’s just-take this one thing at a time.”
“I can’t-” Eliot was quiet for a moment, before starting to make his way towards the door. “I need a drink.”
“But-”
Hardison flashed her a look again, and she took a breath before settling back against the couch. “That … could have gone better.”
“I don’t think it was you,” he sighed softly. “I think it’s one of those things that Eliot’s got to deal with on his own.”
“Yeah, but still.” Her eyes followed the path that Eliot had made out the door. “I think we broke him.”
He laughed, before sliding an arm around her and pulling her closer. “I think he’ll live. Revelation of the supernatural is not the worst thing he’s ever been through. She smiled at that, before using her toes against the floor as a bit of leverage to lean in and kiss him.
“So. While he’s thinking, what should we be doing?” she asked as the kiss broke, staying in kissing range if necessary. Hardison grinned.
“I think I can come up with a few ideas.” He started to push up from the couch and reached for her hand. “May I?”
“Yes, you may,” she said with a grin. “Lead away.”
