“I’m not eatin’ it.”
Jo flashed Eliot a look over the top of her burger. “What are you, two? Eat the burger.”
“I’m not eatin’ it. It’s not sanitary.”
Jo’s head slumped forward, her forehead hitting her hand as she groaned. Audibly. She had forgotten what a pain in the ass eating out with Eliot was, and while she knew that there were some parts of the hunter lifestyle that weren’t exactly the healthiest, eating at a diner shouldn’t be like pulling teeth. She could feel the look Eliot was giving her without having to look up.
“If you would just let me stop … ”
“No.” She looked up at him with a glare. “It is fifteen hour drive to Cicero. We are not getting a motel room just so you can cook.”
“Well, I’m not touching this.”
“Fine. You’ll starve then. Doesn’t bother me either way.” She pointedly reached over to his plate, grabbing one of his fries and popping them in her mouth. She made a dramatic face of enjoyment as she chewed and swallowed, before going back to her own burger with a smile. “These are the best burgers and fries in Pennsylvania. Eat, because you’re not gonna get another chance until we hit Ohio.”
“Who’s drivin’ here, you or me?”
Jo gave him a look that indicated that if he wanted not to be left on the side of the road with nothing but the clothes on his back and a cell phone, he better do as she said. Eliot met the stare for a moment, but eventually he grumbled and grabbed one of the fries to pop it in his mouth. Jo grinned, before reaching for her drink to take a sip.
“See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
“I’m startin’ to wonder why I liked spendin’ so much time with you.”
She blinked at him innocently, but she couldn’t stop the smirk that tugged at the corner of her lips. She was pushing it and she knew it. She was dragging him out to Indiana to see a guy who was probably the closest thing he had to competition because he had done something to raise her from the dead, which was something Eliot didn’t. Even though she had made it perfectly clear that she didn’t appreciate what Dean had done for her, she knew it didn’t necessarily make him feel any better. Her face softened a bit, before she pushed up from her side of the booth and moved over to squeeze in next to him.
“I’ll let you pick the places to eat on the way home.” She looked up at him for a minute, before leaning in to brush a kiss to his lips. “Promise.” He kissed her back, and when he broke the kiss, she spoke up soberly. “You know how I feel about you, right?”
He nodded. “Yeah. I know.”
“Good.” She kissed him again, then heading back towards her food. “Eat your lunch.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
